the other day i was taking a morning walk along the beach when i came upon a creature i had never seen before. as is my nature i approached him or her
(i don't know which let's just call it spiky) for a chat and a photo.
but spiky wasn't looking well. so i asked
-hi. are you okay? you look like you need some help.
-no i am feeling very out of sorts.
-well you are out of the water for one thing, shall i help you back in?
-no i am taking the sun. i heard it was the best source of vitamin d.
-vitamin d! what do you want that for?
-i heard it was protecting against covid
-COVID?? aren't you some kind of fish?
-last month i was a perfectly normal fish. you see all these spikes all over me,
well that's what happened when i got covid. this fish variant is really bad.
now i look more like a porcupine so i am trying to get vitamin d.
but it is not looking good i may soon take my last breath.
-well i hope it works. say, would you mind if i took your photo?
ouch. i shouldn't have said that. it was so insensitive, what was i thinking? this poor thing is in dire straits and crazy me wants to take a photo...
-sorry, i shouldn't have said that. i was very unkind of me.
luckily spiky wasn't affected at all by my cruel remark. on the contrary it seemed to lighten the dismal mood.
-nobody ever asked me that before. what will you do with the photo?
-well you see, there is this shadow photo contest i host on ecency and you and
your shadow would be perfect for it. i doubt anybody could guess what is
making the shadow.
-no, probably not. it would be hard to guess. are you the judge of the contest?
-no each week i search for new photos and new judges.
-i've never done anything like that before. so i will make you a deal. you can
take the photo as long as you promise to use it in the contest and let me be
the judge. you can consider it granting me my last wish.
-i am sorry to meet you under such somber circumstances but i would be
truly honored to have both you and your unique shadow in the contest. i wish
we could have met in some other way.
-our paths would never have crossed. i have had a good life with no regrets and
this will be a fitting quietus. now i am dying to see what people guess i am.
and so it was. but then...
tuesday morning
-judge spiky, are you still with us? we have a problem.
-i'm on my last breath here. what happened?
-somebody guessed correctly but they replied past the deadline. What to do?
-somebody really guessed it?! amazing! well what are the rules?
-there's only one rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
please live by it at least until midnight June 28th.
-the way it is written the deadline is a request so i would say the do unto others... rule applies and we also must follow it. is there some special celebration when somebody gets it right?
-we always have a parade but it takes time to organize that
-just see what you can do. a little parade is sufficient given the circumstances. it would be a fine send-off for me also. it is nice to know somebody got it right in the end.

it was a puffer fish until it caught covid. even without the mrna injection the fish variant of covid is able to change the victim's dna so it had turned into a porcupine fish before expiring. that terrible fish variant of covid may start spreading to humans anytime convenient. to better keep up your vitamin d level you might consider becoming one of those sun worshipers at divided rock i have been exposing recently
Sounds like the injection was the kill shot for that poor fish. 😭
Sadly, I'd never qualify for entry into the sun worshiper clan due to my inability to tolerate the sun directly for any longer than 20 minutes and I never tan, except for my spots. 🤣
What was more brilliant was that @eolianpariah not only saw the fish but photographed its shadow as well.. that was amazing.

i have found many interesting sea creatures washed up on the beach. only once have i seen a porcupine fish. i was with my nephews who i mentioned a while back when we found it. we had an interesting time together finding out what it was

a very strange fish indeed. i had never seen one before (and never since either) so i had to do a little research to find it was a porcupine fish. i often take walks on the beach and sometimes find new creatures such as this one washed up in the tide

Anyone who knows me knows how bad I am (really bad) at keeping track of time, especially if GMT is added into the mix. All I remember is that when I looked at my clock it still was June 28th where I live. As for my guess, we used to have a super cute puffer fish that danced around in our salt water aquarium and that's how I recognized what the shadow most likely was of.🐡
it was a great guess, i honestly didn't expect anybody to guess a porcupine fish shadow. they are not exactly common even n the sea. as for the timing of your reply, the goal of the contest is to have fun and the rules are both made and interpreted accordingly. judge spiky was very appreciative of the recognition but would never have allowed the reply to be disqualified even if it was some incoherent fabricated fantasy.
