La Navidad era para María visitas a la familia, patinatas después de las Misas de Aguinaldo, claro que estas eran acompañadas por el comer rebanadas con chocolate bien caliente. Profusión de dorados, plata, rojos y verdes. Aguinaldos, villancicos y gaitas y alegría por doquier.
Y, como decía la canción: "Olor de las hallacas se siente al respirar".
En ese contexto, un bullicioso día llegaron de visita a su casa una amiga de su mamá con sus dos niños: Victoria, de siete años y Rolando de once.
De inmediato María y sus hermanos los integraron en sus juegos. Los adultos hablaban mientras los nuevos amigos corrían en el patio de la mano de la Ere, la Ere paralizada, la Gallinita Ciega y Cero contra Pulsero. En ese momento llegó el tío Rogelio, el que vivía en el estado Táchira, los niños lo recibieron con gran efusividad porque él era muy consentidor con ellos y hacía más de seis meses que no lo veían.
El tío Rogelio sacó cinco envoltorios en papel de regalo de diseño navideño, obsequios para María y sus cuatro hermanitos.
En ese momento la mamá de María captó la mirada de Victoria, en su inocencia, la expectativa por un regalo inexistente. La mamá, en esa sabiduría instantánea que tienen las madres tomó de debajo del arbolito dos paquetitos, los cuales, por el color de la cinta, se notaba que eran uno para niña y el otro para varón.
Victoria de inmediato abrió el suyo y se encontró con una colección de colitas de todos los colores para el cabello. Rolando abrió la parte superior del paquetito que le entregaran y con expresión de extrañeza y disgusto exclamó: "¿Y yo qué hago con esto?"
Cuando la mamá tomó el supuesto obsequio en sus manos se dio cuenta del por qué de la cara del niño. Su contenido estaba comprendido por todas las bambalinas del año anterior , las que estaban muy dañadas y no podían ya ser reutilizadas. Alguno de los armadores del arbolito, al ordenar las cosas, las había ido colocando dentro de esa bolsa para regalos olvidando luego botarlas.
Cada Navidad en la familia se recordaba el episodio, la cara extrañísima que puso el niño y la frase - ya célebre entre todos - "¿Y qué hago con esto?"

The mother, in that instantaneous wisdom that mothers have, took two little packages from under the tree, which, by the color of the ribbon, you could see that they were one for a girl and the other for a boy.
Victoria immediately opened hers and found a collection of pigtails of all hair colors. Rolando opened the upper part of the little package that she gave him and with an expression of surprise and disgust he exclaimed: "And what can I do with this?"
When the mother took the supposed gift in her hands, she realized the reason for the child's face. Its content was covered by all the backdrops from the previous year, which were badly damaged and could no longer be reused. Some of the tree owners, when ordering things, had placed them inside that gift bag, forgetting to throw them away.
Every Christmas in the family the episode was remembered, the very strange face that the child put on and the phrase - already famous among all - "And what can I do with this?"
