Mi restaurante de madera

(The English version is below)

My wooden restaurant

Some people think that it is enough to cook well to have a successful restaurant, but the reality is different. To have a restaurant you must create a space where everyone feels good, a cozy place where you can relax to enjoy whatever it is you are going to eat. A few days ago I opened my restaurant and it hasn't gone so badly. Every day people come from all over to order very rare and exotic dishes. I try to prepare them in the best way, as long as I have the ingredients, because I don't have everything in the cellar. No matter what I prepare, I always have to make sure that the diner is well fed.

The decoration is nothing fancy. There are many restaurants around here, but I wanted to make mine with a unique style and an unusual theme in a city where there is only iron and concrete. I made my restaurant out of wood, lots of wood. I decorated the interior with woven palm leaves, beach shells and handcrafted candelabras. The windows are wide and overlook the sea, so there is no need for paintings or weird pictures like those in museums. I made the tables and chairs myself out of bamboo and rattan, so they can withstand the biggest belly of the fattest diners and the biggest trays on the menu. I have clean water and toilets so nothing is missing. It took me a while to build it but I did it and I feel satisfied with it all, how can I not be if it is one of the best restaurants in the place.

One day a fat white man with gray hair and a funny little hat arrived. He smoked a pipe and wore a long fur coat that caught my attention, as I had never seen anyone around here dressed like that. Everyone in the restaurant saw him as a weirdo, as he was too flamboyant looking. He was carrying a very small suitcase that caught my attention, so I told one of my older workers to keep an eye on him.

To everyone's relief, the man took a seat at one of the back tables without looking at anyone or saying a word. A waiter approached him and took his order, then handed it to me. For such an odd-looking man, he ordered something quite simple, even for me. As there were other diners waiting, I concentrated on the kitchen, pulling dish after dish from the kitchen. Finally I handed the exotic customer's order to the waiter, who attended to our customer with the friendliness that characterized our growing restaurant. At no time did I lose sight of the diner, as he looked carefully at the dish served. I smiled as he finally nodded in approval and prepared to try it, but suddenly his arm fell off.

I almost cried when I saw my little diner made of sticks and lizard skin, with his stick arm broken in half. I tried to repair it with some strings I took from my mom but I didn't have time, because mom started calling. Too bad, the diner won't be able to taste her dish of colorful pebbles and fragrant flower salad, served on an elegant coconut shell plate. Tomorrow I'll be back, I hope no animals come and damage my creation, they are so annoying.

My house is small and I always sleep with mom. Sometimes it's cold and when it rains it feels like it's raining inside the house, but I never get wet, my mom makes sure of that. There is a fireplace where we cook everything, when there is wood and food. My house isn't as nice as my restaurant, but there's mom there and I'll be wherever she is. So I got home as fast as I could, running through big rocks, small rocks, mud, puddles and weeds. When I arrived, my mom was waiting for me with her usual smile and her arms wide open, to hug me as tight as if she was going to break my ribs. All that work in my little restaurant left me hungry, so my mom served me dinner after I showered. The soup she served me tastes just like yesterday's soup, it even has the same color and the same vegetables, but it is very tasty. What I don't like is that my mom doesn't eat at the same time as me. There are days when she is with me at the table but without any dishes. I guess she eats before I get there or after I've fallen asleep. Well, she says she is the chef and must make sure the diner is well fed, but now I am also a chef, so tomorrow I will bring her a dish from my restaurant....
