I started reading The Rock Kiss series by Nalini Singh two weeks back and it has been a jolly good ride for me. The series focuses majorly on the lifestyle of four Rock stars and their love life, but after reading the first book of the series I realized that there would be a diversion later to be able to capture the lifestyle of close friends to the Rock Stars.
Here I will be doing reviews of two books. One is a novella (a short story) while the other is a novel which is the second book in the series. From the first book titled 'Rock Addiction' It talked about four Rock stars, but focused on the leader of the band (Fox Zachary). In the novella which is like the continuation of book one titled, 'Rock Courtship' focused on the drummer of the band, David Rivera, the gentleman man of Rock.
'Rock Courtship' was first published on 30th September 2014 with 125 pages and a contemporary Romance Novella. I didn't enjoy reading this book as a novella but enjoyed reading it as a full length novel. It was full of creative dialogue, good characterization, a little bit of misunderstanding and sensual romance. You know there are some books you read, you fall in love with the main character. I did fall in with David Rivera and he stole my heart. David Rivera is also referred to as the Gentleman of the band. He is shy, loyal, genuine, strong and charming.
A Little Synopsis
David, the gentleman of the band and drummer for the most popular Rock band in New York has this strong affection for their Managers Thea since the first day he met her. She stole his heart that very second they met. On the other hand, Thea found out David's sexy smile had an effect on her, but she made up her mind to date any client or musician due to her experience with her ex which left her heart in pieces.
David, being very determined, went for Thea without holding anything back. He was determined that he would through the icy part of her and love her effortlessly. Thea tried to hold up her walls of defense but David went through it with unconditional love. Finally she whispered to him while he was asleep, "Please don't break my David".
There is this popular saying of "if things are going your way smoothly, you expect an obstacle soon. It happened for Thea and David. Amidst the misunderstanding, they thrived and became stronger.
'Rock Hard', is the second book in the Rock Kiss series which focused mainly Charlotte, Molly's best from the first book 'Rock Addiction'. 'Rock Hard' was published on the 10th of March 2015 with 387 pages in the setting of the story in New York. Reading this book made me giggle and it was adventurous for me having to read what Molly's best friend was all about and because I was curious from book one who Charlotte is as a character.
If I have to choose the best book from this series, I would pick 'Rock Hard' because I enjoyed and adored every moment in this story. I was hooked from the first scene of the story. Having the two main characters meet was priceless for me and funny.
A little Synopsis
This contemporary romance book takes the reader to a new world where love is ignited between a gorgeous, sinfully sexy man who built himself up from nothing and a shy woman who has a terrible secret in her past that has scarred her up till present.
Gabriel, a former rugby star player who had to fight from everything he wanted, was out of commission in the sport world when he was injured. So from there he ventured into the business world and learnt how to bring back the glory of a bankrupt company without breaking a sweat. He was offered a job/contract to the CEO of the company where Charlotte worked, where they met.
Charlotte first saw herself as timid and shy, and terrified of Gabriel, who is tough, hard and ruthless in every aspect there is to him. She thought Gabriel could crush her like a bug. All this fear was because of the trauma she went through in the hands of her ex boyfriend, Richard. Richard broke her, destroyed her mentally, emotionally and also physically. With years of therapy she got the freedom of being able to connect with the world again. This makes her jumpy when Gabriel is around.
Gabriel saw this, but it didn't feel less of her. Instead he wanted her the most and he set his goal to get her to be his forever. Along the line, Charlotte began to get use the presence of Gabriel and from there a strong passion began to spark between them. Did he succeed? Or did Charlotte shy away? To know what happened you have to read the book. I don't want to kill the story.
My opinion and Recommendations of both books
Both books were well written. Storyline was amazing and there were no dull moments amidst the story. The hot and steamy parts were sexy in every way. Both books will keep you on the edge from the very first page up till the end. Also both books portray the meaning of love and how it can heal and reach the deepest part of ourselves. EXTREMELY CAPTIVATING!
Both books, I would recommend for young adults of above 18 years old, lovers of contemporary romance. My ratings for both books are 4.5 stars.
