Hello friends, today I write again in this wonderful community, this time with the book PAULA by Isabel Allende, is a fantastic book in my opinion very painful, as I am a mother and not imagine how difficult this time for a mother. A heartbreaking book that trapped me from beginning to end, it made me suffer with her, and even cry with her. Any book by Isabel Allende is an event. Paula is especially so because it is the most moving, personal and intimate of all the books she has published to date.
Isabel Allende, of Chilean nationality, was born in Lima in 1942 and currently resides in the United States. She is a descendant of working men and aristocratic lineage, being at the same time, a relative of the founding deputy of the Socialist Party Salvador Allende.
A journalist by profession, she has worked tirelessly as a writer since the age of 17. She had a humorous column for 15 years in her country and later in Venezuela, where she lived after the military coup in Chile in 1973. She did television, wrote journalistic chronicles covering a variety of subjects, plays and children's stories.
Paula is a 28-year-old woman who has just married and suffers from a strange hereditary disease called porphyria. After a crisis she is referred to a hospital in Madrid where her closest relatives arrive to take care of her and accompany her. It is there where she begins to write paragraphs remembering her family, her ancestors, initially she did this so that Paula would not forget anything of her and her family's life when she wakes up.*
Porphyria broke out in Paula on December 6, 1991 and she spent a few months, almost a year, in a hospital in the city of Madrid. When her mother, husband and next of kin discovered that there was not much to do, they moved her to California to spend the last days of her life with her family.
Paula was a book written to wash away the wounds and mourn the coming death. Isabel Allende felt, and rightly so, that by writing Paula she could ensure that her daughter would never be forgotten and that she would remain in the hearts of everyone who read the book.
She presents the ups and downs of youth, romances, anecdotes and experiences in the midst of the narration of the military coup in Chile in 1973, I love how she expresses her emigration process because I lived it and it is not easy for everyone, she emigrated to Venezuela and I emigrated from Venezuela to Chile, and it really is as she says it is not easy, it is a process that takes time to understand and assimilate.
The author seeks to establish a connection with her daughter through letters. She writes hundreds of letters to her, which are later compiled and published in a majestic book.
This book is defined as a "prodigious evocation and a song to life written from the soul by this brave and admirable woman". A woman who struggled day by day with an illness without separating from her daughter, she truly expresses the wonderful love of a mother.
Grief is the process of adaptation that allows the reestablishment of the personal and family balance broken by the death of a loved one. It is especially relevant when you lose someone very important and, despite being something natural, can involve great pain, disruption or disorganization, for its part this is the way in which the author deals with the death of her daughter, so she makes her grief and leaves a work by which her daughter will never be forgotten.
Thank you for reading my friends, I hope you can read this great book full of teachings for such difficult moments as much as I can.
