Have you had the opportunity to read something that left you so deeply affected that you can't even fall asleep afterwards? This is what happened to me with kites in the sky from Khaled Hosseini, a story developed in Afghanistan in 1975 that I invite you to read.

I always find it difficult to start reading a new book, and when these are dealt with I always play it safe: fantastic literature. I like to go to places where only the imagination can reach, and it used to be very rare that I could read books that were not on this subject. I came to this story because of a top I found on the Internet, because I had decided to read books that were out of my usual range of readings. I looked for the book online and downloaded it and that's where the story began.
A mí siempre me cuesta empezar a leer un libro nuevo, y cuando estos se tratan siempre me voy a lo seguro: literatura fantástica. Me gusta ir a lugares a los que solo la imaginación puede llegar, y solía ser muy raro que pudiera leer libros que no fueran de este tema. Llego a esta historia por un top que encontré en internet, porque había decidido leer libros que se salieran de lo que usualmente leo, busqué el libro online y me lo descargué y ahí empezó la historia.
The Author:
Before starting to review it is necessary to talk about Kaled Hossein, its writer, who, although he already has his American nationality, was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1964, spent his early childhood years living in an Afghanistan with a modernization path as we know it today, his father was foreign minister during that time and in a departure they made from the country they could not return anymore because of the Russian intervention and moved to the United States where they were granted political asylum. It is important to say that the author knows pre-war Afghanistan, that country that we know now, deeply religious, where their women cannot show any part of their body, did not exist until that moment.

Antes de comenzar a reseñar es necesario hablar de Kaled Hossein, su escritor, quién, aunque ya tiene su nacionalidad estadounidense, nació en Kabul, Afganistan, en el año 1964, pasó sus primeros años de la infancia viviendo en un Afganistan con rumbos a la modernización como la conocemos hoy en día, su padre fue ministro de asuntos exteriores durante esa época y en una salida que hicieron del país no pudieron volver más a causa de la intevención rusa y se mudan a Estados Unidos en donde les conceden el asilo político. Es importante decir que el autor conoce el Afganistan pre guerra, ese país que nosotros conocemos ahora, profundamente religioso, en el que sus mujeres no pueden mostrar ninguna parte de su cuerpo, no existía hasta ese momento.
The characters:
Amir: Is the main character, a 10 year old boy who lives in a giant mansion with his father Baba, full of luxuries and his servants Ali and his 10 year old son Hassan. AMir is a boy who grew up without the loving support of his father, a little cowardly, treacherous, eaten up with remorse and for whom we can even feel aversion by being so unloyal. In short, a well-constructed character.
Hassan: Amir's best friend, with whom he spent hours playing. Brave, loyal, good friend forever, Hassan teaches you what is the good and pure nature of the human being.
Los personajes:
Amir: Es el personaje principal, un niño de 10 años que vive en una gigante mansión junto a su padre Baba, llena de lujos y sus sirvientes Ali y su hijo de 10 años Hassan. Amir es un niño con que creció sin el apoyo amoroso de su padre, un poco cobarde, traicionero, carcomido por remordimiento y por el que podemos incluso sentir aversión al ser tan poco leal. En fin, un personaje bien construido.
Hassan: El mejor amigo de Amir, con el que pasaba horas jugando. Valiente, leal, buen amigo por siempre, Hassan te enseña lo que es la naturaleza buena y pura del ser humano.
The History:
The story can be shared in three parts, Amir and Hassan's childhood in Afghanistan, Amir and Baba's life in the United States and Amir's return to Afghanistan.
Amir and Hassan's childhood was spent studying and going to fly kites and fight with them, but during a kite duel a misfortune occurred that led to Amir's betrayal of Hassan. Almost immediately the war begins and Amir and Hassan escape across the Palestinian border and migrate to the United States, where Baba starts working piecework from somewhere else, including gas stations, always missing his country and the fortune they left behind. Because of fate, many years later, Amir had to return to Afghanistan, where he finds a completely changed country and some memories that he would never want to remember again.
Among the most notable things in the novel we can highlight the changes that are happening to the country, which we already know happened, but he tells us about them in this work of fiction. It is also noteworthy that Hassan is part of an ethnic minority and was always teased by the other children in the neighborhood. We know that there is an internal war for minorities within the country, this further strengthens the conflicts that occur in the country. The other thing that is very noticeable is the life that the refugees live once they leave home; since it drastically changes your life, it will never be the same because once you emigrate in this way, what you left behind will not come back, but everything is to save your life and your family's. And that is something that we Venezuelans know very well.
De la historia:
La historia se puede compartir en tres partes, la infancia de Amir y Hassan en Afganistan, la vida de Amir y Baba en Estados Unidos y el regreso de Amir a Afganistan.
La infancia de Amir y Hassan se desempeñó en estudiar y en ir a volar cometas y hacer peleas con estas, pero durante un duelo de cometas ocurrió una desgracia que desembocó en la traición de Amir a Hassan, casi inmediatamente empieza la guerra y Amir y Hassan escapan por la frontera palestina y emigran a los Estados Unidos, en donde Baba empieza a trabajar a destajo de un lugar otro, incluyendo estaciones de gasolina, siempre extrañando su país y la fortuna que dejaron atrás. POr causas del destino, muchos años después, Amir tuvo que volver a Afganistan, allí se encuentra con un país completamente cambiado y unos recuerdos que no quisiera volver a recordar.
Entre las cosas más notables de la novela podemos destacar los cambios que van sucediendo al país, que ya sabemos que en realidad sucedieron, pero nos las va contando en esta obra de ficción. También es destacable notar que Hassan forma parte de una minoría étnica y siempre recibía burlas de los demás niños del vecindarios, sabemos que existe una guerra interna por las minorías dentro del país, esto fortalece más los conflictos que suceden en el país. Lo otro que es muy notable es la vida que viven los refugiados una vez que salen de casa; como cambia drásticamente su vida, nunca va a ser la misma pues una vez que emigras de esta manera, lo que dejaste atrás no va a volver, pero todo sea por salvar tu vida y la de tu familia... Y eso es algo que los venezolanos conocemos muy bien.
The thread with which the author weaves the story has color to nostalgia, may even take you to those years, where there was a glimpse of an incredible future, a country that was on the road to success, but the Russian intervention, along with ethnic groups, deeply religious, ended that country and we know very well how everything continues thanks to the Taliban rule.
El hilo con el que el autor va tejiendo la historia tiene color a nostalgia, puede incluso, llevarte a esos años, donde se vislumbraba un futuro increíble, un país que iba camino al éxito, pero la intervención rusa, junto a los grupos étnicos, profundamente religiosos, acabaron con ese país y sabemos muy bien como sigue todo gracias al dominio talibán.
The author has another book, which I will review later, that touches more on the religious and the hardships of staying in Afghanistan. The kites runner in particular, surrounds more the point of view of the refugees and displaced people from their country and also wrapped in a dramatic aura that really leaves you in tears, however, I recommend it, it is one of those books that you should include in your Check list.
El autor tiene otro libro, que les voy a reseñar más adelante que toca más lo religioso y las penurias de quedarse en Afganistan, Cometas en el cielo en particular, rodea más el punto de vista de los refugiados y desplazados de su país y además envuelto en aura dramática que realmente te deja envuelto en llanto, sin embargo, lo recomiendo, es uno de esos libros que debes incluir en tu Check list.
This novel has all the ingredients of good stories: suspense, drama, nostalgia, error, love, loyalty, ingratitude, redemption, chaos and yet, like life, with an open ending.
Esta novela tiene todos los ingredientes de las buenas historias: suspenso, drama, nostalgia, error, amor, lealtad, ingratitud, redención, caos y sin embargo, así como la vida, con un final abierto.

Oh my, ya quiero sufrir leyéndolo. Lo necesito. Amo y sufro demasiado con este tipo de libros e historias, son necesarias de vez en cuando.

That's a good book by Hosseini. I read this years ago and I vaguely remember all the details. But this book inspired to explore more about the history of Afghanistan and I learned many things about the country including some disturbing stuff like bacha bazi and drug situation there. Also a small suggestion, you can change the history into the plot (it's more suitable) for book/novel reviews.
