To talk about this particular book is to talk about the stories of pirates and slaves, because it is set in the Caribbean island of Saint-Domingue and in the Vieux Carré of New Orleans, between 1770 and 1870, in the period of the French Revolution, the slaves in the rebellion of Toussaint Louverture and the purchase of Louisiana.

Hablar de este libro en particular es hablar de las historias de los piratas y esclavos, porque esta ambientada en la isla caribeña de Saint-Domingue y en el Vieux Carré de Nueva Orleans, entre 1770 y 1870, en el periodo de la Revolución Francesa, los esclavos en la rebelión de Toussaint Louverture y la compra de Luisiana.
This book tells the story of a black slave named Zarité, who fought to be free. Known as Tété, she is a mixed-race slave who is raped at the age of 11 by Toulouse Valmorain, her cruel and proud owner, and who later endures endless injustices, in which only because of her indomitable character and her faith in Voodoo manages to survive and endure.
It is a fictional romance story, but with a lot and excessive period detail, but also with didactic political correctness, breaking the novelist's rule that one should show rather than tell.

In my opinion, in this novel Isabel shines with an impressive wealth of detail, and a narrative wit. What stands out in this novel is the determination of a woman to find love in the midst of loss, not to lose the human essence, although she has been mistreated and to forge a new identity in the most cruel and terrible circumstances.
En mi opinión en esta novela Isabel se luce con una impresionante riqueza de detalles, y un ingenio narrativo. Lo que resalta de esta novela es la determinación de una mujer de encontrar el amor en medio de la perdida, en no perder la esencia humana, aunque ha sido maltratada y de forjar una nueva identidad en las más cruel y terribles circunstancias.
Muy bien dicho, tambièn es de mis libros favoritos por esta riqueza de detalles. Isabel Allende te transporta esa epoca de una manera impresionante por lo mismo. Por otra parte, Zaritè es una de las mujeres de la litetratura màs reales y fuertes que he leìdo. Le debo mucha cultura de la que sè a este libro.
