The Advantages of Being Invisible was a book I read last year, in the middle of June. The story grabbed me immediately, so much so that I finished it in a day and a half, however, a few months later I went back to read it a little more slowly in order to understand some things that I might have missed.
Charlie is a very sensitive and innocent 15 year old teenager, after the suicide of his best friend, and with no other friends to keep him company, he is left practically alone in the jungle called school; however, he finds a support and a kind of camaraderie with his literature teacher, who considers him an intelligent and intellectual boy. Charlie likes reading and writing very much, and it is there where he sees a source of relief from the things that happen to him, so he begins to write letters to a person he does not know, but he believes that he could feel some sensitivity or empathy with him.

Esta historia me pareció muy interesante por el hecho se ven involucrados una cantidad considerable de situaciones que para muchas personas puede ser incómodo hablar, pero que en la vida real afecta a más de uno, como la violencia de género, el aborto, las drogas, el alcohol y el abuso sexual. Asimismo, en este libro no solo conocemos la personalidad de Charlie, sino también de las personas allegadas a él como sus amigos y familia, por lo que te permite involucrarte de lleno y entender muchas situaciones según la actitud de cada uno.
In these letters he tells some stories of when he was a child, or some thoughts about his family; also, we see his evolution and personal growth from the moment he meets his best friends: Sam and Patrick, one of the most popular boys in school, getting to have loving feelings for Sam, and that, although they were not so good influence in certain aspects, they stimulated him to get out of his comfort zone and gave him a very loyal and sincere friendship.
I found this story very interesting for the fact that it involves a considerable amount of situations that for many people may be uncomfortable to talk about, but that in real life affect more than one, such as gender violence, abortion, drugs, alcohol and sexual abuse. Also, in this book we not only know Charlie's personality, but also the people close to him as his friends and family, so it allows you to get fully involved and understand many situations according to the attitude of each one.
Charlie tiene traumas, muchas veces vemos como pasa por situaciones que desencadenas sentimientos de tristeza y soledad, y, aun cuando posee una familia muy amorosa y unos amigos que lo apoyan todo el tiempo, le es inevitable sentirse de ese modo. En lo personal, pienso que es normal, considero que está bien no estar bien. Esto me lleva a parafrasear una de las reflexiones que más me tocaron del libro: no podemos pensar que nuestro sentimientos no son válidos o absurdos comparados con situaciones donde otras personas la tienen peor. Todos somos diferentes, por ende, enfrentamos situaciones de distintas maneras.
Los últimos capítulos fueron los que más ansiedad me ocasionaron, siendo el final algo revelador, con un gran mensaje, pero que creo que tuvo un buen cierre.
Es un libro muy bueno, que siento que todos deberían leer al menos una vez.
Charlie has traumas, many times we see how he goes through situations that trigger feelings of sadness and loneliness, and, even though he has a very loving family and friends who support him all the time, it is inevitable for him to feel that way. Personally, I think it's normal, I think it's okay not to be okay. This leads me to paraphrase one of the reflections that touched me the most in the book: we cannot think that our feelings are not valid or absurd compared to situations where other people have it worse. We are all different, therefore, we face situations in different ways.
The last chapters were the ones that caused me the most anxiety, being the end something revealing, with a great message, but I think it had a good closure.
It is a very good book, which I feel everyone should read at least once.

I know it also has a movie adaptation, however, I haven't had the pleasure of seeing it yet, hopefully I will get to see it soon and I won't be disappointed after reading the story.
