This is the case with the book The Map That Leads Me to You. It is a story that tells us about the experiences of two completely different people who meet on a journey; one with a plan and the other with a total sense of freedom that invites them to break all the rules. This journey, more than just a trip, means making drastic decisions that will allow them to value their lives and give them meaning. However, before starting her working life in New York, she wants to take a trip around Europe with her friends Connie and Amy. She has an itinerary to follow and her own rules, which her friends are not willing to follow because they believe that the best things in life are unplanned. During the trip, they meet Jack, and this will be the perfect moment for the chemistry they felt to start to spark, but at first, they didn't seem to realize it. For him, the map is a metaphor for an emotional journey, while for her, it could be a professional map. She must analyze whether what she has in that plan is really what she wants; it is simply an invitation to follow what our heart dictates.
What is certain is that Heather strives to be a stable, successful adult, and suddenly she encounters someone who has no plan, is romantic, extroverted, and reflects what she must face and establish as a priority. Likewise, the cities and landscapes function perfectly as characters that the author has placed there as a way to take the protagonist out of her comfort zone and experience unexpected things full of inner emotion. The story of Jack's great-grandfather's diary adds a new layer to the plot, as together they will embark on a new adventure where love, melancholy, and new memories are created so that they have something to live for in their future; a future that is uncertain for Jack.
Really, this story presents us with two versions of life: someone who has everything planned out versus someone else who doesn't think about the future, who has no set plan because life is short and living in the present is ideal. The truth is that Heather must make a difficult decision: follow her plan or follow what her heart is crying out for. For example, from my point of view, we are invited to reflect on how fleeting and intense temporary loves can be. Therefore, my thinking is that we should live every second of our lives as if it were our last, because we don't know what will happen tomorrow. But also, that uncertain future may be caused by a secret that is not revealed until the end and that may come to light when love has intensified, causing the couple a lot of pain.
What strikes me, and what I think is the message the novel leaves us with, is that it is not just a love story, but that the journey can be a way to mature even if we don't want to. And that, quite simply, love can also mean pain. The story invites us to consider that a map does not always take us to a place, but rather leads us to find ourselves, and resilience is an important factor in this. In addition, we can also reflect on everything that comes when we don't plan it and that definitely makes us break the rules to live a more intense life. La historia nos invita a analizar que un mapa no siempre nos lleva a un lugar; sino que nos lleva a encontrarnos con nosotros mismos, la resiliencia es un factor importante para ello. Además; también podemos reflexionar sobre todo aquello que llega cuando no se planea y que definitivamente nos hace romper las reglas para vivir una vida más intensa.
