The Man Who Disappeared (Amerika) turned into a Movie
If I could turn one of the novels I have read into a movie, I would undoubtedly choose the work of the Czech writer Franz Kafka called The Man Who Disappeared, also known as Amerika. I choose this novel because I think it fits well with what many people in my country are currently experiencing, I am referring to emigration, which is a fundamental theme in this novel.

Si pudiera llevar al cine una de las novelas que he leído, escogiera sin duda, la obra del escritor checo Franz Kafka llamada El Desaparecido, también conocida como América. Elijo esta novela porque creo que se ajusta bien a lo que viven actualmente muchas personas de mi país, me refiero a la emigración, que es un tema fundamental en la obra.
I would turn Amerika into a movie but since Kafka's novel is set during the first years of the 20th century, I would adapt it to our modern era, a century later from the original. On this occasion, the protagonist would be a middle-class Venezuelan of the same age as the protagonist of the novel, that is, a 17-year-old Karl Rossmann but with a Latin name, I don't know, perhaps, Andrés who emigrates to the United States, but not by boat like Karl, but by plane, just like all of the thousands of young Venezuelans who have gone to that country trying to achieve the American dream.
La llevaría al cine pero la adaptaría a estos tiempos modernos, ya que debemos recordar que la novela de Kafka se refiere a los primeros años del siglo XX, de tal manera que yo la llevaría a los primeros años, pero un siglo después. En esta ocasión el protagonista sería un venezolano de clase media y de la misma edad del protagonista de la novela, es decir un Karl Rossmann de 17 años pero con un nombre latino, no sé, quizás, Andrés quien emigra a los Estados Unidos, pero no en barco como Karl, sino en avión, tal y como han hecho todos los miles de jóvenes venezolanos que se han ido a ese país.
Many of my friends and acquaintances have gone to the United States to start a new life, even to start from scratch, all this they have done not because they wanted to leave their native country, but because they have been forced due to the socio-economic situation of Venezuela. Millions of people have emigrated to distant and foreign lands, something similar to what happened to Karl, but the young man in the novel is sent to New York by his parents, in this case, it would be the country's crisis the reason why Andrés makes the decision to emigrate.
Muchos de mis amigos y conocidos se han ido a los Estados Unidos para comenzar una nueva vida, incluso comenzar de cero, todo esto lo han hecho no porque quisieran irse de su país natal, sino porque los han obligado, la situación socio económica de Venezuela es tan grave que millones de personas han emigrado a tierras lejanas y ajenas, algo parecido a lo que le sucedió a Karl, pero al joven de la novela son los padres los que lo envían a Nueva York, en este caso sería la crisis del país lo que hace que Andrés tome la decisión de emigrar.
The life of an emigrant is not easy at all, I know very well young newly married couples who have gone to try their fortune in that northern country, they have told me all the adventures and misadventures they have gone through and their experiences are very similar to that of the character in Amerika, there are even some things that fit perfectly with the narration of the novel, such as working as an elevator operator, as a waiter or a kitchen helper, in the same way, there are the problems related to the legal documents and the language.
La vida de un emigrante no es nada fácil, conozco muy de cera jóvenes parejas recién casadas que se han ido a probar fortuna en ese país del norte, ellos me han contado todas las aventuras y desventuras por las que han pasado y sus experiencias son muy parecidas al del personaje de El Desaparecido, incluso hay algunas cosas que encajan perfectamente con la narración de la novela, como por ejemplo trabajar como ascensorista, como camarero o ayudante de cocina, de igual manera están los problemas relacionado con los documentos de legalidad y del idioma.
The film would be very faithful to the book, I would leave the same title and as I mentioned before, I would only change the name of the protagonist and adapt the atmosphere of the scenes to the current era. There are many Venezuelan Karl Rossmann in the United States, there are also people older than him and even in worse situations. Inevitably everything that is happening fills me with many feelings that I do not want to express, or rather, I do want to express them but in a film, where I could give realism to all the suffering and anguish that migrants go through, and this case in Venezuelans in particular.
La película sería muy fiel al libro, le dejaría el mismo título y como mencioné antes solo cambiaría el nombre del protagonista y adaptar el ambiente de las escenas a la época actual. Hay muchos Karl Rossmann venezolanos en los Estados Unidos, también los hay más viejos que él e incluso en peores situaciones. Inevitablemente todo lo que está ocurriendo me llena de muchos sentimientos que no quisiera expresar, o mejor dicho, sí los quisiera expresar pero en una película, donde pudiera darle realismo a todo el sufrimiento y angustias por la que pasan los emigrantes, y este caso en particular, los venezolanos.

No he leído ese libro, pero por lo que narras es justamente el tema del "momento" para los venezolanos. Ciertamente nos ha tocado muy fuerte y es una situación difícil tanto para el que se va cómo para el que se queda.
Sería interesante ver la película, porque finalmente es un tema que han vivido muchos países en algún momento de su historia.
