Nor is there a pain that compares to it, perhaps only the pain of having given birth to that daughter, but with a very different surrounding emotion. In the birth, much happiness; while in the farewell, the most heartbreaking sadness.
Isabel Allende, the Chilean writer, invites us to accompany her during that year of pain. In which, little by little, she sees how her daughter's life is disappearing. In those many nights, when sleep did not come to her being, Isabel Allende writes the memories of her ancestors, beginning with her great-grandparents, and moving through the harshness of her grandfather and the ever-present spirit of her grandmother. The spirits of all her ancestors, those who have always accompanied her in all her adventures, are there with her, smiling at her and whispering what to write.
She also wandered through the possible pain of not having had a father, the constancy of a mother who was always optimistic and a false father whom she first hated with all her might and then came, like a breath of paternal friendship, to give her the wisest advice and agreements.
The book becomes an autobiography, starting from his childhood, his first love and sexual experiences. Then the woman, wife and professional, strolling through the political situation in Chile in the 1970s, the military dictatorship, the self-exile in Venezuela and her resurgence as a writer.
It is a book that can be read on its own, with many nuances, happy moments, sad moments, but above all told with a lot of lightness, sometimes bordering on the funny.

Isabel Allende la escritora de origen chileno, nos invita a que la acompañemos durante ese año de dolor. En el que poco a poco ve como la vida de su hija va desapareciendo. Se va esfumando, hasta que un día, un año después de aquel fatídico diciembre, y en compañía de todos los espíritus de sus ancestros, la ve convertida en un ángel y en un último acto heroico, se aferra con todas sus fuerzas tratando de mantenerla en la vida.
Paula, nombre de su hija y título de la novela. Consta de una serie de cartas escritas por Isabel Allende, durante las noches en vela, esperando que su hija despertara de un coma que finalmente la llevaría a la muerte. En sus páginas se entrevé, al principio la lucha de una madre por recobrar la salud de su hija, luego poco a poco, llega el cambio emocional, el desprendimiento, la aceptación a lo irremediable. Cada una de sus cartas está cargada de emoción, amor, angustia y esperanza.
Pero el libro no solo se queda allí. En esas tantas noches, en que el sueño no llegaba a su ser, Isabel Allende escribe los recuerdos de sus ancestros, comenzando por sus bisabuelos, paseándose por la dureza del abuelo y el espíritu siempre presente de su abuela. Los espíritus de todos sus ancestros, esos que siempre la han acompañado en todas sus aventuras, están allí con ella, sonriéndole y susurrando que escribir.
También se paseó por el posible dolor de no haber tenido un padre, la constancia de una madre que siempre fue optimista y un padre postizo al cual, primero odió con todas sus fuerzas y luego llegó, como un soplo de amistad paternal, a darle los más sabios consejos y acuerdos.
El libro se convierte en una autobiografía, que va desde su niñez, sus primeras experiencias amorosas y sexuales. Luego la mujer, esposa y profesional, paseándose por la situación política de Chile en los años 1970, la dictadura miliar, el autoexilio en Venezuela y su resurgimiento como escritora.
Es un libro que se deja leer solo.Con muchos matices, momentos alegres, tristes, pero sobre todo contados con mucha liviandad, rayando algunas veces en lo gracioso.

Te lo puedo recomendar La Isla Bajo el Mar y La Ciudad de las Bestias también de esta escritora Chilena. Actualmente, estoy leyendo otro de sus libros que se titula Mujeres del Alma Mía. Libro con palabras muy poderosas y que empodera a las mujeres. Saludos

Su prosa es ligera y divertida, sin tratando temas delicados, como la muerte. Ayer comencé a leer Violeta y ya en la primera página me ha atrapado, ya les contaré. Gracias por tu recomendación.
