There are some books that make you feel warm. Here I came to you today with such a book. I liked the subject and the author's pen very much. We cannot call the Orphans Train entirely fiction because a similar issue has happened in the past. It was one of the projects implemented between 1854-1929 to find new homes and families for orphans in America. Thousands of children, mostly Irish children, were put on a train and taken on a long journey. During the stops, the children were taken off the train and waiting to be picked up by the families. Children who were not taken by the families were put on the train again and set out on the other station. Families who would adopt their children came to them as workers or to find a caregiver for their children. Few of the families actually came to adopt.

Our book focuses on this topic. The hopes and fears of orphaned children, whether their new families will be good or bad people, and what awaits them in their new lives. The lives and the experiences of children who are subject to being dragged from one place to another with the peculiarity of parents, holding the same hopes and sharing the same pain.

Bazı kitaplar vardır ya hani sizin içinizi sıcacık yapan. İşte bugün sizin karşınıza öyle bir kitapla geldim. Konusu ve yazarın kalemi çok hoşuma gitti. Öksüzler Treni'ne tamamen kurgu diyemeyiz çünkü benzer konu geçmişte yaşanmış. 1854-1929 tarihleri arasında Amerika’da kimsesiz çocuklara yeni evler, aileler bulumak amacıyla uygulanan projelerden birisiymiş. Büyük bir kısmı İrlandalı çocuklardan oluşan binlerce çocuk bir trene bindirilip uzun yolculuğa çıkartılıyormuş. Yolculuk boyunca durdukları duraklarda çocuklar trenden indiriliyor ve aileler tarafından alınmasını bekliyorlarmış. Aileler tarafından alınmayan çocuklar tekrar trene bindirilerek diğer başka istasyon için yolculuğa çıkıyorlarmı. Çocukları sahiplenecek aileler ise bu çocukları yanlarına işçi olarak ya da kendi çocuklarına bakıcı bulmak için geliyormuş. Ailelerden çok az bir kısmı gerçekten evlat edinmek için gelirmiş.

Kitap tam bu konu üzerinde odaklanıyor. Kimsesi kalmamış, öksüz kalmış çocukların umutları, korkuları ele alıyor. Onları sahiplenecek aileleri’nin ne tür bi aile olacağı, onların sağladığı koşulların ne olacağı, gelecekte onları nelerin beklediğini düşünmeleri. Anne, baba özlemi ile beraber oradan oraya savrulan hayatları konu alıyor.

Christina Baker conveys this historical event to the reader through Molly and Vivian, which I mentioned above. Their lives are very similar, albeit at different times. Vivian, one of today's young people who lost her father in a traffic accident, shares the same fate with Molly in many ways, with her sad life story that began in 1929. Fate crosses the paths of these two women. Vivia's memories flow in the book.

Vivian is a rich but lonely 91-year-old woman. She couldn't love anyone too much after losing her loved ones at a young age. Of course there were some mistakes. Born as Niamh, Vivian is originally Irish, migrating to New York at age 7 She loses her family in the fire that broke out at the age of 9 and is put on the Orphans Train by the Child Protection Agency. She is just one of dozens of kids who don't know she's coming, and they're all frightened about what their future will look like. Molly and Vivian have a lot in common. Their most important point is that they are orphans and the only thing left from their family to both is a necklace. These common points create a feeling of completing what they both lack. Perhaps because they understand each other best ...

The other character, Molly, is a lonely 17-year-old girl who lives with a foster family. She has a public service job she has to do for the book she stole from the library, and her friend finds a place for her. He will organize the penthouse of 91-year-old Vivian, and in return pay the public fine. Vivian is one of the passengers of the Orphans Train in his past. What will Vivian tell Molly in her story? Unfortunately, the Train of the Orphans was a train that actually existed in the past.

The friendship of the two women who shared a similar fate with Vivian, which helped each other open new doors to their lives, was written so well that I often thought whether Vivian had fought under better conditions or Molly, but living as a shelter in a house, what to be crushed? No matter what the circumstances were, the worst of the bad was also the worst you will think of them while reading. You will learn and understand the value of your family, relatives, a house where we can confidently put our heads under all circumstances when we are confused, and people that we can safely lean on, and the Orphans Train has taught every reader of the importance of these. This book has been a good tool to appreciate everything, I hope it will be the same for you.

Yazar sizlere bahsettiğim bu tarihi olayı Molly ve Vivian adına iki farklı karakter üzerinden anlatıyor. Vivian 91 yaşına merdiven dayamış maddi yönden zengin ama kimsesiz bir kadındır. Sevdiklerini erken yaşta kaybettikten sonra kimseyi bir daha sevememiş. Henüz 9 yaşındayken çıkan bir yangında ailesini kaybetmiş, esirgeme kurumu aracılığı ile Öksüzler Trani'ne bindirilmiştir.

Kendimi onlar yerine koydum ve bir evde sığıntı gibi yaşamanın nasıl bir şey olduğunu düşündüm. Ne olursa olsun insanın kendi öz anne ve babası olmayınca hayatta hep eziliyorsunuz. Gerçi bazı anne ve babaların var oluşu da bir şeyi değiştirmiyor. Haberler de neler olduğunu göüyoruz. Neyse Ben bu kitabı okuduktan sonra bir süre düşündüm. Ne yaşarsam yaşayayım her koşulda bana kucak açan bir ailem olduğu için, başımı sokacak sıcacık bir evim olduğu için, sırtımı güvenle yaslayacağım insanlar olduğu için şükrettim. Okuduktan sonra tüm bunların kıymetini daha iyi anladım. Bu tarz şeylerin kıymetini daha iyi anlamak istiyorsanız bu kitabı sizlere öneriyorum. Arkadya yayınlarından okuduğum ilk kitaptı ve duyduğum kadarı ile hep bu tarz kitaplar basıyorlarmış. Ara sıra bu yayın evinden kitaplar seçip okumayı düşünüyorum.
