Rathnayaka, an online activist and convener of the Irreligious Community of Sri Lanka, was recently summoned by the Organised Crimes Prevention Police Division. A Buddhist monk had filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department claiming that Rathnayaka had propagated fictitious ideas about Buddhism and Buddha. According to Rathnayaka, the monk based these accusations on Rathnayaka’s Facebook posts – stating that Buddhism originated from Jainism. The Buddhist monk claims that Rathnayaka should be arrested and face charges for malicious intention to outrage religious feelings and inciting hostility, with a punishment of up to 10 years in prison.

Rathnayaka hasn't done something very serious that worth calling or refering as crime. Even if he posted what he believed to be true, he hasn't dragged anyone to share the same believe with him. Everyone seize the right to say and share ideas of believe or something agreed after research.
Oh, boy. To think that we conceive monks as very spiritual people, mostly concerned with meditation and elevated values.
I do not see the threat, especially considering that Buddhism and Jainism are related. It would be like being offended if someone affirms that chrisitanity, judaism and islam share the same origins, prophets, and the like.
Religious people seem to nurture themselves from controversy rather than from spiritual elevation. Their petty quarrels (which unfortunatelly can have mortal consequences for those victimized by sheer ignorance and superstition) just corroborate their lack of trust in their deities. If they did trust them, they'd leave those almighty entities deal with trespassers.
