Thailand could be the first Southeast Asian country to permit same-sex unions—while not explicitly condoning LGBTQ marriage—as a Cabinet-approved bill heads to parliament for legalization. Though the bill doesn’t endorse same-sex marriage, it allows same-sex couples to adopt children and merge finances, including inheritances. “This is an important step for Thailand in creating equality for everyone and guaranteeing rights for same-sex couples to start a family,” Rachada Dhnadirek, a spokesperson for the Thai government told Bloomberg.

Some random thoughts about this
It concerns me that in the last decade or so the whole LGBT... community is showing power and influence enough to make things happen very quickly in ways and places that were unthinkable some years ago. I wonder how much better our society is after all those legal battles have been won in several places while in others they are on their way to achieving a set of legal rights.
If so far Thailand has been the meca of sex turism (especially with minors and gay boys), how will this leagalization play into the whole picture. Is this what all societies should be all about? Liberty to do what exactly?

For me it is not so much about whether or not a given community is dicriminated against and the whole world must join forces to end that discrimination. The real issue for me is, how does granting that community all the rights they are asking for make our society better. What are they demanding and how are they doing it?

I can't help thinking about the disgusting protests and parades of the so-called feminazis. Their agenda is disturbing, the say the least, and they are gaining some power in many countries. By aligning themselves with leftist/socialist/communist groups they are assuming their goals are the same. They are recurring to the old "the-enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend" premise but that does not work that well, especially when it comes to political and moral ideology.

Many LGBT... groups are supporting anything that waves that flag and they are even including even more disturbing flags, such as the one that is now lobbying to remove the criminal stigma off pederasty and incorporate that to their fight as one more sexual orientation.
I think that at this pace this is going to blow up in our faces and we'll start seeing some really troubling behaviors being normalized while what has ben normal so far may star getting criminalized.

This sounds like it could be progress. Denying rights to people based on their sexuality is retarded. I get that most religions consider homosexuality to be bad, but it has been part of most cultures for millennia. Is it better to have people in sham marriages just to get rights?

Truth is, it's been a long time coming. Like you mentioned being a very friendly place to same sex union it's only a matter of normalcy for them. Truth is, ladyboys have been existing in Asia for long and Thailand is like a haven so this is like giving these people a nudge to normalise these. I'm not a fan though. But they make whatever choice they want

Good for them. People deserve to have their civil and legal rights guaranteed regardless of sexual orientation. There is a lot of hypocricy in the world regarding this topic
