Terminology can be a barrier but those that that go over it will feel part of the gang. For me I see it as learning, even if I need to put my brain at work and understand and deduce some things to understand the underlying mechanics.

You point is well made, learning new terminology and being able to converse in this new language does instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Learning new terminology is definitely part of learning, but painful.
I agree that any endeavor requires hard work. I understand why those with strong wills and large intellects love the challenge of the difficult subjects. They seek the rewards they value the most, sometimes that reward is the learning and mastery of a new subject.
