Ancestral Lessons in my Country's Process

Today, February 27th, 2023, marks the 34th anniversary of an event commonly known as the "Caracazo", generally considered to be the foundation of the chavista regime in the country. In the morning of February 27th, 1989, a protest broke out in Guarenas, the commuter town east of Caracas where I myself used to live not so long ago. People got furious when they woke up to go to work and found out that the bus fee had risen overnight, the last straw in a series of sociopolitical and financial issues that had been years in the making. The fury turned into a violent riots that spread to the capital and eventually engulfed other parts of the country. Incited by thugs and ex-guerrilla men who would later become the top officials of Hugo Chavez's "revolution", the protests quickly turned to looting, thousands of businesses were destroyed and the government of then-president Carlos Andrés Pérez did what most governments do in such situations: they called in the police and the army, initiating a carnage whose death toll has never been determined. Thousands of people were arrested, many were killed, seriously injured or vanished without a trace to this day.

The Caracazo was dreadful, it shook people to the core and fundamentally changed Venezuela's political process, eventually leading up to a failed coup three years later which gave Hugo Chávez the platform he needed to win the elections of 1998 and bring the country to its present situation. Of course, this process was much longer, predating Chávez, Pérez and all the previous presidents and the Colony, back to the time when there wasn't even a nation here, just a mixture of several aboriginal tribes with their own territories and turfs. We're often tempted to blame the current leaderships of the world for the disasters that plague us, but violence and fear aren't things that can be pinned to a specific group or person, they're as old as civilization and the wounds they inflict live within us all until they're purged through deep self-reflection. Pain must be acknowledged to be cleansed, a task that may take thousands of years simply because we don't have full access to the ancestral memories stored in our cells and are therefore incapable of seeing the truth in our history. This is the main reason for war, tyranny, corruption and abuse at all levels of our societies.

During my journey, and particularly in the past four years, I've dedicated much energy to the exploration of and reconnection with my ancestry. The things that I've discovered have made me reconsider my entire approach to history, politics and society; I've remembered past lives where I embodied atrocious rulers and generals, where I deceived and abused others in the name of religious fervor, territorial clout or plain self-interest. In my DNA reside the codes of genocide and rape, right beside those of romance and healing, and this is true for every single person alive today. This knowledge allowed me to break free from the judgment against criminals, dictators and corrupt officials everywhere, as I realized that they were mere humans unable to escape their own ancestral prompts, prisoners of their own night terrors and torment. Ultimately, this has meant a profound shift in the way I see the world's turmoil, for even natural catastrophes respond to our inner collective darkness.

Everything, be it terrible or beautiful, fulfills a purpose that we're often unaware of. There are lessons in pain that can't be learned any other way. Whatever's going on around you right now, whatever might be happening in your house, neighborhood or country, strive to see it from a broader viewpoint and substantial truths will be revealed to you that will bring you peace and set you on a path of understanding rather than suffering.

Becoming a new thing means leaving the old behind. Ruins turn to dust and settle into the ground upon which a different path can be built. No human rule is sacrosanct, no morality is absolute, unquestionable standards always lead to perversion. Beware what you consume, for it determines your attitude and defines your perceptions. All things in the Universe move, nothing is permanent or stable though it might appear thus, a dynamic life requires dynamism of mind and heart. Identities are useful but also often limiting, let go of previous attires, strip down to the bone if you seek the essence of your soul. Blessings are always invisible to those who choose not to know, uncover your eyes and look around you.

I feel like this one has come up a few times lately, similar to a couple of my cards which have been cropping up multiple times in a week if not several days in a row. I guess they’re trying to tell us something 😆

Yes, it has come up quite a few times. One of its main meanings is Birth and considering what we're going through globally, it's not hard to imagine the kind of message it's repeating, hahaha.
