Good Neighbor, Bad Neighbor - Finding Balance

in Cross Culture16 days ago

Hello friends, I welcome you all to my blog. I'm so happy to participate in the Q2 #crossculture theme for this week. We live in a simple bungalow of seven tenants, including us, and it's mixed with people from different cultures. We were the last tenants that joined, so my husband and I minded our business, avoided problems, but we exchanged good pleasantries.

A good relationship started between us and the opposite door neighbor after she heard me speak in my local language to my mother. She was happy to meet someone who spoke her native tongue, she came out to meet me out of excitement and we spoke well. That was the start of a good relationship between me and my opposite neighbor. We became close, she would cook and bring for me, and I would also do stuff for her. Her children became fond of me and always wanted to stay with me. After school, they would come to stay with me, and I assisted them with their assignments. A few months ago, my neighbor traveled home for a burial, and the children stayed with me for over a week. That's how close we became, from neighbors to family.

As for my other neighbors, we chat when necessary and put head together to address a common problem. That's where the friendship ends, nothing deep, but we are on good terms except a particular neighbor at the last door that seems to be a packaged trouble.

This neighbor who lives on the last door is very difficult to deal with. She doesn't agree with people's suggestions, and she wouldn't give hers either. Four of us share a light meter, and when it finishes, she refuses to pay. She would rather turn on her noisy generator and disturb the peace and quietness of the whole compound. She's also very rude and disrespectful and would always slam the gate whenever she walks in. She's so annoying that I wanted to confront her and give her a taste of her own medicine, but my husband begged me not to. He pleaded me with everything in him to overlook my neighbor and pretend she didn't exist. I respect my husband so much, and I decided to rule her out of my mind. So presently, I don't talk to her, no greetings, I snob her totally like she doesn't exist, and that gives me my peace of mind.

Dealing with neighbors can be draining because of our different lifestyles, cultures, and exposure. Whatever the case, I feel respect for people is very important, and when I notice anyone lacks that, I try to distance myself from such a person.

This is my entry for #crossculture #prompt for this week. So, what is your relationship with your neighbors? Do share your experience. We would love to know.

For the meter part, the best way to solve it, is to have your own meter(prepaid), because some neighbors are just too difficult to deal with.Especially when there is a connection that has to do with payment.Anyway, nice update.

Yes, we are already processing our personal prepaid meter. We are hoping it will arrive before the end of this month. They would be shocked because I'm gonna take them unaware.

That solves it.

Agreed!!
To be with a good neighbor is not common and one of the best blessings

I can’t imagine the generator situation? I guess the quieter ones are more expensive but are easy to share and the solo ones are much louder?

I can totally imagine this kind of neighbor though, reminds me of Godzilla upstairs from me playing games until 5 am every night and shouting
