Travel and Discover! Slovakia. Levice Castle with the White Lady and the Bloody Well.

in Cross Culture3 years ago

My warm sunny greetings to all of you, my friends and readers. Today you and I are going to a very beautiful and romantic small town in Levice, Slovakia. It is in this city that the eponymous castle of Levice is located. And not just a castle, but a very important fortress. This fortress is mentioned in the 13th century. Not far from the town of Levice there are mines in which various minerals were extracted. So, this fortress was built to protect the road that led to the mining towns of Slovakia.

The fortress itself was built on the very top of a volcanic rock ledge. These ledges are located above the swamps of the river Khron. Levice Fortress is a hero in the history of the city. Its decisive role occurred during the occupation by the Turks. In 1664, when the Turks attacked the southern part of the city, they suffered a very significant defeat. During that Turkish attack, the fortress was very well fortified, huge bastions of the Renaissance were built. By the way, this outstanding event is familiar to us as the "Battle of the Left".

But not everything is eternal in our lives. In 1907 there was an uprising. Then the mighty bastions were damaged. Even later, the fortress lost its military purpose. In the second half of the 16th century, a manor house was already built here. There were both royal balls and secular meetings of aristocrats. A very beautiful large park was also built under the castle. This park still exists today. It is located near the fortress. He is very handsome.

"White Lady" and "Bloody Well"

This castle has its own legends. The first legend of the "White Lady" tells us about a woman who wandered around the castle and was looking for her husband and her children. This woman was executed under lock and key. And the second legend "Bloody Well" is generally scary. This legend tells of a terrible executioner. This executioner beheaded people, and after the execution of people he went to the well and washed the blood from his sword.

Today, the Tekvice Museum has been built near the fortress. This is a separate topic for publication. The museum is very large and interesting. And if you want to visit this museum, the ticket price for you will be 1 euro, quite symbolic. On the territory of the castle Levice celebrate various events and festivals. The most outstanding is the Levice Castle Festival. Until recently, this festival was held on the territory of the fortress, and now in the new amphitheater.

The most famous place of the castle was the Tea Room. Walking through the ruins of the castle, you see in your imagination beautiful women in royal attire, or soldiers who defended the city and fought off the Turks. Just imagine what life was like here. And now the ruins themselves remain. Thanks to the city authorities, these ruins are preserved and restored. To date, the ruins are being cleared, strengthened and rebuilt. Maybe very soon we will be able to see the castle as it was more than 300 years ago.
