Tet Holiday in Viet Nam πŸ’–

in Cross Culture β€’ 3 years ago

Hello Hive Cross Culture,

It's been a while since the Vietnamese New Year happened here. I should share this festival of our culture with friends on Hive earlier, but I've been busy, and I sometimes struggle with writing. πŸ˜ƒ

Today I think of something special about our culture here, and I would love to share with you about the Vietnamese Tet Holiday ( Vietnam Lunar New Year) πŸ’–

What's the most important celebration in your country?

Among all holidays, the Lunar New Year is considered the most important and special one for the Vietnamese people. No matter how busy Tet is and how much to worry about, Vietnamese people look forward to Tet's coming every year. Over thousands of years, life has had many changes, customs have also changed too much, but the traditional Vietnamese New Year's customs are still preserved.

We have a habit of wrapping Chung cake and et cake before Tet to prepare for ancestors. I am very excited to experience it. It is made from glutinous rice, green beans, pork, leaves, banana leaves, and flat rice ... Everywhere, in every countryside of Vietnam, whether rich or poor, urban or rural areas, when Tet, we will have Chung cake and ban Tet cake in our house.

On the Tet holiday, my family members often gather together at the grandparent's and parents' house to make offerings to the ancestors to celebrate the age of the elderly and children. We wish each other the best of luck, the best that will come in the new year, with grandparents and parents to live healthy, long-lived hundred years. Adults are happy to give children lucky money and wish to be obedient ... Although I am an adult now, I still like lucky money. πŸ˜ƒ

According to the custom in Vietnam, Vietnamese people buy cherry blossoms and apricots to decorate their homes. The apricot blossom is for the southerners; it symbolizes richness and wealth. On the other hand, according to the concept, the more yellow apricot flowers bloom, the richer the family is. Peach blossoms are for the Northern people; it symbolizes fertility, prosperity, prosperity, good business, peaceful family, and good health for everyone.

However, today's life is more modern, scientific and technical advances have changed our lifestyle, many forms of entertainment, many cultural products combined with art. and business has a strong appeal. Therefore, some Vietnamese people no longer remember the old Tet's rites and customs, but in the mind of the Vietnamese people still eagerly look forward to Tet to reunite with their families.

This lovely decoration was in front of Furama resort and photos were taken by me. 🀩

Thanks for reading, and I hope you will enjoy this our essential occasion .

Thank you for a visit, much appreciated it 😍

I think in America, Christmas is the most important holiday. It started as a religious holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, but now it is a time for families to spend time together. Traditionally, families put a Christmas tree in their house and decorate it. Then they put gifts under the tree. On Christmas we open the gifts and have a big meal together.

Thank you for sharing about this tradition in Vietnam!

Hey, @fronttowardenemy I hope you are having a great weekend, and thanks for checking this out and sharing the most important holiday of your country. Been living overseas for years, and I can see how important the X-mas holiday for Western. I love the X-mas tree decoration and the Santa story. Even I can feel the loving and warm atmosphere X-mas holiday here.

That's festive! It's almost similar to how Lunar Year is celebrated in Indonesia. Except during this pandemic this year, there was nothing. In 2020 I was still able to visit Lunar New Year market and watch some shows too.

Hello dear @macchiata, thank you for coming by; I much appreciated it. I'm glad to know that's similar to your Lunar NY in Indonesia. It's the same as we also canceled firework shows due to the current pandemic. Even many people were unable to travel home to gather with their family due to the lockdown.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend :)
