Suffering & Smiling

in Cross Culture4 years ago

It is a new week and there seems to be little or no hope of the world getting better in all aspects of life. There seems to be no hope for a common man because all the goodies are being circulated in the hands of very few individuals who are opportune to be at the top of affairs. Corruption has eaten deep into the world that it has collapsed all the system that once meant good for the common man.

It is a pity that "suffering and smiling" is fast becoming the new norm. For over three months in Nigeria there have been what started off as artificial fuel scarcity which later developed to more intense fuel scarcity due to adulterated fuel that was brought into the country that spoilt so many vehicles, bikes, generators and so on. Till this morning, there are long queues at fuel stations, it is serious to the extent that some people parked their cars on the queue overnight so that they can be first to be served the next day.

The fuel scarcity have affected so many part of our living as Nigerians. The most impacted ones are the transportation and food sector. The cost of transportation have increased, possibly because the price of fuel have increased to some extent or due to the fact that some people buy from the black market. Another factor could be the high demand for commercial vehicles - most private car owners who couldn't get fuel due to the long queues will have to settle for commercial vehicles, thereby increasing the demand.

On my way to work this morning, I spent up to 30 minutes at the junction before I could get a taxi. I was feeling stressed and tired already even before the day started all because I needed to get a cab to work. It was not as if it was easy to gain access to the cab that took me to work, it entail some pushing and dragging. The gentleman do not even care about the ladies, everyone had to struggle for themselves.

Similarly, there have been total blackout across most states in the country for a while due to the faults with the National Power Grid. The lack of fuel makes it more difficult for business and even people that want to use power in their houses. The fuel stations are even making it more difficult for people as they would not sell fuel inside gallons but will tell you to bring your generator if you want to get fuel. There is serious heat at the moment in the office but we cannot make use of generators because there is no fuel.

Well, we hope it will get better soon 😔

They said you should bring your generator?? 😂😂 Forgive me but that part is funny 😂😂

It is well. This is all I can say about my country for now. 😩🤦

Yes oo. They feel you may want to sell as black market. It's so sad
