It is a real pleasure to be once again participating in Hive Open Mic, this time with a tasty merengue from Caracas, from our capital, which transmits joy, the flavor of the Caribbean, the color of our sky, the walk of the caraqueñas, the beauty, the mischievousness and the kindness of our people. El Catre es un sabroso merengue caraqueño compuesto por Miguel Núñez donde cuenta que él ha decidido emigrar y para hacerlo decidió vender todos sus corotos, pero lo que no venderá jamás es el catre porque ahí es donde él duerme.
La canción tiene una letra jocosa, algo que es muy frecuente en los merengues caraqueños, letras muy costumbristas.
Este es uno de esos merengues que se ha popularizado por la interpretación de los distintos artistas que lo han grabado. Una de las primeras versiones (muy guapachosa, por cierto) fue la que hizo la Orquesta Los Melódicos con su cantante del momento Emilita Dago el año 1961.
También ha sido interpretado por Cecilia Todd, Simón Díaz, Los Cañoneros, Los Antaños del Stadium.
El Catre is a tasty Caracas merengue composed by Miguel Núñez where he tells the story of how he has decided to emigrate and to do so he decided to sell all his corotos, but what he will never sell is the catre because that is where he sleeps.
The song has jocular lyrics, something that is very frequent in Caracas merengues, very costumbrista lyrics.
This is one of those merengues that has been popularized by the interpretation of the different artists that have recorded it. One of the first versions (very handsome, by the way) was made by the Orquesta Los Melódicos with their singer of the moment Emilita Dago in 1961.
It has also been interpreted by Cecilia Todd, Simón Díaz, Los Cañoneros, Los Antaños del Stadium.
