Show Cliff Notes:

Web2 ballooning in infrastructure cost.

Decentralized, autonomous communities are the key.

Each part of web2 infrastructure will be decentralized into web 3.

Thank you for the wisdom.

Your videos are always the best part of my day. I have not missed one minute since steem, and I am now almost done watching all of your old youtube videos.

I strongly recommend you read Nassim Taleb's books, or watch his 1 hour lectures on his books, if you don't have time to read them. He is the expert on decentralization, philosophically, even before Bitcoin existed.

If you only have 5 minutes, look up his "minority rule" where he explains why an intransigent minority is enough to swallow the whole crowd.

Censorship resistant web3 is the intransigent minority.

I know Web3 has completely invaded my brain when my husband says, "Hey, YouTube & Gmail are down" and the first thought in my head is... 😂

I really like to listen to your talks & thought ramblings as they're quite entertaining/interesting due to your visionary views. I think you're right with most of what you're saying, but you tend to be a bit idealistic/puristic sometimes and I believe for it to take at last 4-5 more years until fully web3 applications can compete with current web2 monoliths.

As an example, I would expect for most of the world to have internet by now; as the internet is a few decades old already, but roughly 50% of the world's population doesn't have access yet.

So, what I wanted to say is: things tend to take a long time and web2 isn't as bad as you sometimes make it. Heck, even what's currently called web3 oftentimes isn't even truly web3.

The debate by @themarkymark around HiveEngine is a good example. If I'd play devils-advocate, I could say that Leofinance isn't nearly as web3 as they make it out to be.

  • The token is on a blockchain, which actually isn't really decentralized. (Hive Engine)
  • The frontend is closed-source; not open-source.
  • Protocol level changes are made & approved but a small circle of people.
  • They are thinking about adding a centralized database layer to improve the speed (which I can fully understand)

However, even though all of these "problems" exist, it's still providing something unique, that classic web2 can't give, even if it's not fully web3.

I also agree it will take a very long time . Bitcoin's success (and by extension eth and web3) is maybe not within our lifespan. It will always be on the fringe until it's not, but it has to win over the long run.

  • because it can't die.
  • because it's good.

And that's all you need to win.

I would say Hive is true web 3. Same with Bitcoin. Very few outsides of that can call themselves web 3, and I put ETH in that category with their 80% premine moving to PoS where the foundations tokens will have a centralizing vote on which consensus rules are implemented (33% of the network is needed on PoS to fork in new changes)

We see what happens when web 2 ideology tries to enforce itself on web3 fundamentals, you get what happened with Steem vs Hive.

Web 2 is broken. While we have just a foot in the door, going from a shut door to where we are now is 100x easier to gain momentum. In the next 10 years, bitcoin could displace gold as a web 3 store of value. Hive could easily upend several web 2 pain points. If you look at censorship as inflation to their core value as a site, we are looking at censorship inflation on a compounding level we have never seen before. Right now is akin to when JS censored everyone that mentioned anything bad about Steem, that was the death knell to the real users with pride and they left to Hive. That same situation is happening now across all major web 2 platforms. While yes I consider myself a purist, as in I don't allow an inch of tyranny to get a foot in the door when it comes to my morals, I am also a realist and there is no reason in the next 10 years, the internet is nothing like we know it today. I could be wrong but I don't think I am. Web 2 will turn into an advertising ramp for web3, like ad agencies.

Web 3 is more than just blockchain, it's IPFS, is decentralized CDNs and data encoders, storage providers, and everything in between. We need to decentralize each pain point of web 2 before we can grow wings and fully support our own weight. At the pace of innovation, we are currently experiencing vs the lack of innovation from web2, I would not bet against the hungry ones in the long term or even the midterm.

Talking about the censorship and folks walking on eggshells. I'm reminded of the route television and radio were forced to take. These content creators with their stunted creativity and G-rated nonsense will soon turn into such a distorted version of reality, they'll resemble those families on television in the 50's and 60's.

In the past barriers were always put up, but then people come along to slowly break them down. There's a brief period of freedom then the walls go right back up.

All censorship and control exists so those who make the most money behind the scenes don't have to actually pay attention. The standards are set then the project is on autopilot. Advertisers don't want to have to actually look or listen to the content that fills the gaps between their ads. They just want to make the money and not have to answer to anyone. Someone flying off the handle, bitching about problems in the world, then gets interrupted by Ford, "Ford. A proud sponsor of yadda yadda yadda..." Then Karen fucking calls up Ford and she's all like, "Oh my god how you can people support this message! How darrrrre you!" Ford panics, worried about their bottom line and bad publicity, so they tell these networks they'll lose money if these people aren't kept inline.

History is just repeating itself. Creativity and opinions, bad. Their advertisements pushing pills, good.

What is weird is how they - the big bad tech people, think us humans would like the dumbed-down, heavily censored version of entertainment. This is why comdeians are some of the unsung heroes of dark times. This walking on eggshells creates a gap in the entertainment market, and then your clever comedians can come in, poke fun and clean up house. Because no matter how much you censor people, saying the fucking truth will always feel good and sound good.

I'm just happy we finally have the tools to take our ball and go to our own game. The field we're playing on isn't owned by anyone but us. It's a very amazing, liberating feeling to look back at the years of my content here and know not one of those posts was shadowbanned or outright deleted. I can't say that about ANY other platform I've ever been on. Quora gave me "top writer" for some random year I forget, yet I would say 20% of my post were deleted off the face of the planet. So they even censor those they like. It's a very strange world out there, and they call us the crazy ones.

Real comedy does a fine job of doing its thing. Fake comedy like those late night shows, Colbert, Kimmel, those guys. That's just straight up brainwash. Political comedy is not comedy, it's pure laziness, telling a guaranteed lopsided audience exactly what it wants to hear, with a goddamn applause sign and laugh track backup dancers.

It's no wonder CNN hates Trump. Dude wanted to take profits away from big pharma; now look at the ads on CNN. Big pharma. That's not a coincidence.

And yes, I can't imagine having to start from scratch someplace else, having years worth of work wiped away, all because one day I wrote about killing someone, added cartoon violence, and tagged it 'funny'.

True story Dan...
I use Web 2.0 to promote Web 3.0 Hive mainly.
Same as you I don’t see a point of using it for anything except that ;)
At the same time trying to explain to everyone that even with 1 subscriber you can make more than a million times more than what Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube is giving them.

But time will come people will come around ;)

Namaste 🙏

@lyubo19 @roflie @velinov86

Web2 is experiencing massive diminishing returns.
The Legacy Economy can not scale higher than this; glass ceiling.
Flat architecture is the future.

I think,

At some points, the tools and infrastructure are ready, every community leader/owner (or however we call them) can join hive with some easy steps.

100 or even 1000 leos will pop up.

Because the people are here, games will pop up using hive.

Maybe something decentralized like steam / epic games and all this platforms will come in a decentralized way to hive.

It's so ridiculous if you buy a game, you don't own it. Its devolution. Years ago it was possible to sell it again. In today's world is not. Censorship all over the internet.

We are all starting to see this happening in front of our eyes, web 3.0 is definitely the future of the internet. Decentralizing the cost using web3, unlike web2. Centralization is unsustainable, decentralization is the first and foremost what has to be done. 100% agree with what have you discussed here

Thetatoken.com has a patent on decentralized cdn streaming.
They used Solidity, are faster and cheaper than Eth.
No ICO.

I heard 3speak mentioned in a minds interview of Bill.
They also mentioned a way to store thing permanently.

Theta token had a 20mil private sale in 2019, which is worse than an ICO. It is a 100% premine thus 100% centralized. Patent anything is laughable in web3. Their tech is good, the Speak network is def away of their version of a decentralized CDN but I believe our 0% premine, 100% decentralized approach will be the right way to go about web3. We have a very cool way to pay CDNs in a decentralized way too. :)

It is a 100% premine thus 100% centralized.

Yeah, I can't wait to sell mine.

Patent anything is laughable in web3.

Because it'll all be open source?

Their tech is good,

That is good to hear.

the Speak network is def away of their version of a decentralized CDN

Ya'll do something similar on 3speak?

We have a very cool way to pay CDNs in a decentralized way too. :)

Can I run a node on my desktop?
In linux?

If you go back a few posts on his blog you'll see a 1 hour (or more) video on what's coming with 3speak.

The Hive Gamification Proposal #2

Best part of this video...

"We use web 2.0 to promote web 3.0..!"

Preach!

This is exactly how I think of all my activity on social media...Just a way to raise awareness for Hive and bring people here.

Be a product of your product for sure...But I think it's a great way to showcase we have the better solutions.

Awesome stuff as always man, thanks!!

@theycallmedan, Decentralised Portals are opening, entering into it is a Option. Stay blessed.

As always, great explanation video. Web 3.0 means true decentralization And as you said, we promote web 3.0 by using web 2.0 and this is what now we are doing here. We are early adopters of web 3.0 .....👍

I am very motivated with you, for your constant positive evaluations of my publications. Thank you. God will always be with you. Hugs from Venezuela. Success for you is my sincere wish this Christmas.

Web 3.0 is what many dreamed of, it is what many thought it was just a dream and would remain a dream. HIVE already represents web 3.0 very well ... In short, web 3.0 with HIVE is already there and works very well, only few know it at the moment. In a year, many will understand this. Thanks for sharing this video.
