How about another delicious beer reviews for #beersaturday Today I’m reviewing Over Privileged by Old Nation.
It’s that time of year to break out those high ABV stouts that I love. Over Privileged is a twice fermented and them steel aged for nine months for an imperial stout that is drinkable even with the high ABV. It features flavors of spiced chocolate and roasted notes that are soul warming.
It’s been one of those weeks so o decided to get a crowler of beer that would put me in a coma at 11.8% ABV this did the trick.
Over privileged is a deep dark imperial Stout with a nice thin tan head. The appearance is beautiful like a dark night. Because of the cold pour and high ABV the head was very minimal but left a nice tan lacing floating on top.
I poured the beer a little too cold so the aroma was muted at first, but as it warmed it open to those chocolate and roasted notes that I was expecting. The chocolate was more like a dark chocolate aroma and the roasted notes were like toasted bread, roasted nuts and a bit of spice.
The flavor was definitely chocolate forward with more roasted notes, but these were more like coffee. I was getting a dark espresso with almost a slight nutty finish. The beer is slightly sweet because of the alcohol. However, all the roasted in better notes balanced it out. I also could get some malt and a slight sugarcane finish.
The mouthfeel was thick and rich which held up nicely to the stronger flavors. With the higher ABV you get a nice warming sensation as you sip on a beer.
Overall, this is the perfect beer for my situation. It was drinkable and that ABV gave me a wicked buzz.
