Qurator's Photo Quest - Blue Hour Competition

Blue Hour

This is my entry for the Qurator's Photo Quest this week. The topic is 'Blue Hour' - that window of time between day and night, when the sun is below the horizon, but night time isn't cloaking the landscape in darkness.

This photograph was taken on a family holiday in Buttermere in the Lake District. The Lake District is a very beautiful National Park in England, and Buttermere is one of my favourite areas. I took this photograph on the morning that we were leaving. It was very beautiful by the lakeside. There was some subtle movement in the water, and I like the graphic lines made by the very gentle waves that are catching the light and shadow. As the sun rose, the wind picked up and the water became choppy and chaotic, and the tranquil moment was gone.

Thank you! Glad that you like it. It's an absolutely beautiful valley, so photogenic.... :)

This is stunning Cath!! Love how peaceful it makes me feel.

Thank you Tristan! It was a lovely morning for it.

I was back up there in September for the first time since I took this one, and we had such boring weather during our stay, I didn't get any shots! :)
