If the Bible prohibits alcohol drinking, is it logical to say that it also prohibits man from selling those products? God commanded that man should not kill, does it follow that man should also not join the military where he would have to kill at one point?

It is clear from this episode that the military does not just stand to kill and destroy. I agree it is a symbol of protection of lives and property.

The misunderstanding about the military stems from what 2Pet.1:8 described as those that cannot see afar off. If we see beyond our nose, we will see that without the military, the world would be a den of thieves where evil and criminality will reign supreme.

We see that Jesus did not condemn the soldiers that asked him what they shall do. His response in Lk.3:14, "Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely..." is a clear statement that the military on its own is not an evil organization.

However, we know that the military, like any other organization, if placed in a wrong hand can be a weapon of suppression.

We are inviting everyone

The military is saddled with the responsibility of defending the nation against all potential threats. Joining the military is not a death sentence, or a warrant to kill. Military forces do more of peace keeping than waging war. The military only opposes those who threaten the peace of a nation. It is a noble thing to be among the forces that defend a nation. It is what a Christian especially should seek to join.

Philippians 4:8, ESV: "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

For example, while Nehemiah started the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem, the bible says...

Nehemiah 4:17: They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
