Today, I have the privilege to review one of the most interesting Bible lesson video series of Brother Eli Soriano. I read a post made by @hero-hive on the video series few days ago, where he invited everyone to do a review on any of the videos, and I am here to share with you my review on the first part of the three video series titled "Why do people die."
In this series, Brother Eli discussed the topic of death and its connection to man's creation according to God. He showed us the reasons why all men must eventually face death and what the Bible has to say about it. Through his detailed explanations, Brother Eli sheds light on the condition of man and the purpose behind our existence.
Death teaches us something very important, and we must bear that in mind. However, there is a general question people do ask "if there's a God why do people die?"
Some die young, some die at an older age in life. Whether Young or Old death happens to all. But why?
In the book of First Timothy chapter 6:16, it says there is only one being who has immortality, and that person is God almighty.
1 Timothy 6:16 (KJV) Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
The father is the one person who possesses both power and honor for eternity. As written in the book of Matthew chapter 6, reading from verses 6 to 13, Jesus introduced the Father to the disciples when they asked to be taught how to pray. In response, the Lord Jesus told them whom to pray to, and that person is the father.
Matthew 6:6 (KJV) But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
In verses 9 to 13, the Lord Jesus gave an example of prayer to the disciples which follows below.
Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
That's a very famous prayer that almost everyone knows as the Lord's prayer. It's with that prayer verses that the Lord Jesus introduced the Father to his disciples, as a way to pray.to Him. However, Paul, in his writing to Timothy, stated that only the father has immortality dwelling in Him.
1 Timothy 6:16 (KJV) Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
From the above scripture, it's established that God is the only being who has immortality. That means He is the only being who cannot die. But our question says why do people die? Regardless of age or condition, all men die. What is it so? Let's read Hebrews 9:27.
Hebrews 9:27 (KJV) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
There's something important here for us to note. "It's appointed unto men once to die" Who appointed it to be so? The answer is God. It's God who determines the life span of men. We are appointed by God to die. That is something inevitable, you cannot escape it because it's a divine appointment that leads to judgment.
Death teaches us a crucial lesson - that there will be judgment. As we face death, we must also face the judgment seat of God on the day of judgment. This is an inevitable truth that we must all come to terms with.
Summary of this lesson
1. Death is an appointment everyone must respond to
According to the Bible, death is an appointment that every person must keep. It is an inevitable reality that all humans must face. The Bible teaches that it is appointed for man to die once and then face judgment.
2. Death is our entrance gate to the judgment seat of Christ
Throughout the Bible, death is portrayed as a natural part of life. It is not something to be feared, but rather something to be accepted as a part of God's plan. The Bible also teaches that death is not the end, but a process that leads us to the judgment seat of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As Christians, we are called to live our lives in preparation for our appointment with death. We are to live our lives in a way that honors God and reflects His love for others. When we face death, we can do so with the assurance that we will be condemned at the judgment seat of Christ.
3. Only God has immortality
According to the Bible, only God possesses immortality. This is stated in 1 Timothy 6:16, which reads, "who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen."
This verse indicates that immortality is a characteristic unique to God. It also emphasizes that God is beyond human comprehension and cannot be seen or approached by humans. This reinforces the idea that immortality is not something that can be attained by humans, but rather, it is a divine attribute only for God.
In conclusion, neither death nor judgment should make the Christian afraid. Death is a divine call we must answer, hence, we should prepare for it. Even though no one knows when death will come, we have the time to prepare ourselves by the life we live. On the other hand, the judgment of God will be favorable for those who live their lives doing what the Lord teaches in the Bible. Therefore, we have a blueprint of what the judgment would be like.
