Points gathered:
We must understand these things before examining the kind of faith that the thief possessed.

There are two kinds of righteousness according to the bible:
*The righteousness of God
*The righteousness of man
Romans 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Until we submit ourselves under the righteousness of God, we can't be righteous because God's righteousness is perfect, holy and acceptable.

But all righteousness if man is like a filthy rags:
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

And there is none righteousness, they have all passed away:
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Romans 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
