A purchased from my Local Coin Store and I will have to give this ‘Round’ to the Dealer that I may have paid a little too much for a damaged but uncommon coin. I admit it, I sometimes do something dumb and claim my fair share as this 1987 100 Peso looked like it was in a war zone. At least he tossed in the capsule.
The Obverse of the Mexican Coat of Arms does have considerable toning whereas the reverse is not as toned but sharp tiny tone spots. My Indicators conclude that this coin had been in a fire and subject to exposure in it’s past and the lacking of original display packaging suggesting it was subjected to extreme conditions.
The Coin
I got the coin bare and raw, and discounted from it’s Catalog price as it is far from the original proof. It needed a home, and it suits the next chapter of Teresa D’Mordecai.
Sister Teresa D’Mordecai: Part 8 – Metamorphosis
Major Colonel Oreaga watches his raid unfold from a distance. Shots, screams and shouts, soldiers fought in and out from between the shadows, tombstones and broken fires scattered around the treasure wagons. His troops were not totally unfamiliar with raiding, but not in the dark as it was difficult to observe the progress of his plan but then he begins to realize that this handful of rebels have put up an unexpectedly staunch defense.
With inside information, greater numbers and surprise on his side any rational enemy officer would realize the hopelessness of the situation and surrendered. His opponents have demonstrated an uncommon resourcefulness and now time is no longer on his side. The treasure should have been in his grasp by now.
"Bah! We should be riding the wagons away now, incompetence! Move up the reserve quick." His Lieutenant saluted and rode off to execute his orders. Then the Major Colonel waved a man forward with a new Baker rifle, a Sharp-shooter’s rifle, “I will need your keen eye Señor.”
The soldier nodded, ”Si, my Capitan.”
“When I drop the handkerchief shoot General José Maria Morelos, if I cannot get away with all the treasure then I will at least be satisfied to see this rebel die.”
The stout Rebel General was neither slouch nor amateur when it came to combat. He had originally joined the military academy in his earlier years, when his ears were filled with fanciful stories of honor and glory by an officer of fine repute but his father convinced him to pursue a spiritual life as traditionally expected.
“I am so sorry, God be with you my son.” José pushes away the dying soldier, his fatal wound spilling his life fluid with a pitiful moan. Before the Revolutionary leader could whisper a quick prayer he sees Teresa in distress and his heart froze, instinctively reaching out to her, “Teresa!” Distracted a musket flies over his head from behind and jams in under his chin.
Morelos felt his breathing instantly cut off, the gunstock pressed hard against his throat. His hands instinctively try to push the weapon away.
"Muere traidor!” grunted the Royalist as he yanked harder.
Another Royalist emerged from amidst the confusion, "Viva le Ferdinand! Muerte a los rebeldes!”, then lowered his bayonet level to the Morelos' exposed belly.
She fell to her knees and clenched her fists.
Teresa struggles to focus on her maternal instincts to keep her blood lust under control. The mask was to prevent the taste of blood from satiating and evoking the hideous beast chained inside. Or those around her including her friends may perish should control be lost. The other option was to wield Ambrogio her cursed blade that gave her a measure of control and power but at the cost of a deserving soul or her own blood limit cost. Her blade was still back at the convent.
As an unaligned independent Night Walker you may succumb to the intoxicating and addictive properties of fresh human blood in much more than those under the patriarchal and matriarchal orders. Not many choose this path lest become creatures of instinct themselves..." ~ The Book of the Despised.
Argénta can see Teresa hunched over seemingly injured yet vulnerable, at the same time the General was just jumped from behind and struggled to catch his breath, "Damn." The French nun drew her right pistol as she sees two loyalists head for Sister Teresa. . “Teresa, look out!” The closer one was about thrust his bayonet into her helpless Sister. Argénta stops focused her aim then fires. The first man goes down.
The Bonus coin feature
To make up for a less-than-stellar coin I usually post.
Teresa watches the soldier collapse next to her, but her thoughts were on José whose company she enjoyed. It was the way he held her hand and felt his respect for her. It's been a long time since she met fine gentleman with a genuine altruistic passion, a rare leader that must be preserved. Those most ambitious with the least scruples tend to most often grasp power then become drunk of it. Not Morelos and her instincts knew it.
The darkness encloses about her body and the air chills. The Quickening is done.
She could hear the next Royalist approach her took a deep breath as he draws his musket back.
Teresa’s mind and muscles became charged, her acute hearing painted a picture of sound above the clamoring of combat and chaos.
Her senses surrounded the soldier like tentacles, the rhythm of his steps, his labored breathing and the beat of his heart.
The rustle of his uniform, the grunt from his throat, he begins to plunge the blade towards her chest.
He didn't have qualms about running through a nun.
The irony.
The fool doesn't realize what he's dealing with.
The soldier grunted in bewilderment as his musket was stopped at mid plunge.
Her left hand had seized the tip of his musket barrel then pulling him off balance into her right hand clamping the front of his throat in an unexpected act of violence.
She came to her feet lifting the man off the ground by his throat.
His survival instincts had him grasp her right arm as her steel grip tightened around his throat.
The stricken soldier’s eyes bulged seeing her pale skin, blood red eyes, and the monstrous fangs.
He wanted to scream but couldn't, only able to gurgle, "Aie...Dia…blo...!"
The Nun growled, “No, soy Vampira!”
Her hand squeezed tighter until there was an audible crack.
The soldier’s body shutters before falling limp. A quick death was more merciful than to exist as a monster.
MORELOS
Argénta turned and now drew her second pistol, aimed, breathed out and shot the Royalist as the he charged towards Morelos' belly. Her shot struck the attacker between his eyes then clumsily fell forward only to jab his bayonet harmless into the earth between Morelos' feet.
The other Royalist continued to hold fast to Morelos. He closed eyes as this Nun held a pistol against his ear to pull the trigger, and then she elected to kick the Royalist in the groin and save the round for a more threatening target.
“Gracias Sister Argénta!” coughed General Morelos as he finishes the Royalist punching him down with the hilt of his sword.
Morelos was surprised at Argénta's sudden appearance, miraculously head shoot his adversary at twenty paces with a mere pistol. "God in heaven, there are now two nuns on the field of battle?" They both scan back to the first treasure wagon, Sister Teresa was gone.

Playing fast and loose with real history in a Fictional alt context.

I know, I know it's really Sunday but since my work schedule is so skewed half a week it just feels more like Tuesday.
The 100 Pesos coin with the Monarch butterflies and the Mexican coat of arms is fantastic! Maybe I'm strange, but I don't think it's condition detracts from it at all! A very nice addition to your stack! I'm a bit jealous, lol!

It's nice and I don't see too many Mexican coins in my area, I could have been more patient and continued to look for a nice one on Ebay. The little coin begged me to take it home, but that little voice and the faint music of a Mariachi band playing in my head.

I used to buy toned bars that no one wanted at slightly cheaper price, because i only cared about the weight for bigger bars, maybe it's different story for coins
I thought my Dealer would budge a bit more but seemed quite firm on the sub BU price, maybe it was rarer than the stated in the catalogs. He threw in the capsule! And I needed the coin for this episode.

Lol these pesos look so cool really reminds me of some buried treasure!
My estimate is that this coin had been in a fire, the reverse has some hints of scorching or high heat and the coin have been cleaned that may explain the tiny black dots on the coin reverse surface. The case it was in was likely totaled. The Obverse has been spared the brunt of the heat, toning had been artificially accelerated. Still Legal tender and 0.720 Fine Silver with pretty Butterflies. Yes the Butterflies.
