What is the Hive NEAR Guild?

The Guild is a community of blockchain and cryptocurrency users and enthusiasts that collaborates on projects for the NEAR Protocol. Work in the Guild can be rewarded on both Hive and NEAR. Guild members can contribute in a variety of ways to both the NEAR Protocol and the Hive NEAR Guild community.

Contributions can and should be discussed with and encouraged by other members. Feedback and collaboration is important and advised. HNG is a worker guild, first and foremost.

What is NEAR?

From NEAR’s quick-start guide:

NEAR Protocol (aka "NEAR") is a decentralized platform where developers can host serverless applications and smart contracts which have easy access to "open finance"[1] networks and benefit from an ecosystem of "open web"[2] components.

Unlike other blockchain-based platforms, the NEAR Protocol has been built from the ground up to be the easiest in the world for both developers and their end users while still providing the scalability and security necessary to serve those users. Specifically, NEAR is designed to make it easier to:

  1. Build decentralized applications, especially as a developer familiar only with "traditional" web or app concepts.
  2. Onboard users with a smooth experience, even if they aren't familiar with crypto, tokens, keys, wallets or other artifacts of this ecosystem.
  3. Scale your application since the underlying platform automatically expands capacity via sharding without additional costs or effort on your part.

[1]: "Open Finance" networks facilitate digital value transfer and storage using tokens and tokenized assets. Practically, this spans everything from easy peer-to-peer payments to sophisticated lending and trading protocols.
[2]: "Open Web" components are re-usable smart contracts that share state, making for easy composability of applications that still protect user data. Where Open Finance is build on the permissionless movement of value, the Open Web further generalizes this to operate on all data.

What does NEAR and the Guild need?

There is current demand for NEAR validators, second-layer application developers, audio/visual guides and tutorials for NEAR and its applications, and social media personalities that can help with outreach and marketing. The greater Hive community provides access to all of these skill sets and experienced users who are already familiar with blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. The Hive NEAR Guild and its members are in a unique position to tap into these resources and collaborate with each other on NEAR projects and to also showcase the experience and professionalism that can be found within the Hive community.

Guild members can become familiarized with the NEAR contributions system by visiting the Contributor repository.

Join NEAR and Earn for Staking

If you’re interested in running a validator node with NEAR, please visit their Staking quick-start guide.

For anyone interested in joining NEAR and earning on their staked tokens, you can register an account at wallet.near.org/create. Staking with validators is simple, it pays out in staked tokens, and it compounds daily.

Wow, this sounds like a really solid project that can not only compete with, but also enhance Ethereum and other projects. I heard that it's really easy to bring an existing Ethereum Dapp over to NEAR and run it at a fraction of the cost, is that true?

There's some big money companies backing NEAR from what I've read so far. Man I can't thank you enough for turning me onto such a great project!

I heard that it's really easy to bring an existing Ethereum Dapp over to NEAR and run it at a fraction of the cost, is that true?

Yes, NEAR has pretty much all of the functionality of Ethereum with little of the cost. The network will not get backlogged or price people out of micro-transacting due to slower block times, miners, and GAS fees. There is already a very large number of developers working in the NEAR ecosystem as well - and that number continues to outpace projections.

NEAR is probably one of the most promising new-ish blockchains out there at the moment and we are uniquely situated to offer expertise, a communications hub, and a relatively large and active crypto community right here on Hive.

Incredibly insightful bro, thanks! I think I'm going to buy a very large position in NEAR very soon. Please don't frontrun me just because I said that.

Such an interesting project!

Running the Ethereum dApps 10K times cheaper (per transaction) than you can do it on the Ethereum!?

Mind blown!

Couldn't resist it. Bought some, created the NEAR address and staked some tokens. What I like is that the rewards you earn by staking NEAR are automatically restaked and your rewards are compounding!

Yep. I've already been buying in and staking. It's a breeze. I'll be making regular purchases and compounding. Their wallet is really slick and it's perfect for beginners.

The project looks interesting to me, but I don’t want to open extra wallets I already have too many. If there are any tokens on H-E I will buy them ...

NEAR is not a Hive-Engine token, so you won't find it on there...unless someone makes their own NEAR token on H-E that has nothing to do with the real NEAR.

The NEAR referred to in this post is an actual blockchain.

I strongly agree Near + Hive could make something cool in the domain of social network and communities, especially when both of the chains are focused on user experience a lot. Happy to collaborate and work on something fun together.
