CACTI AND SOME SUCULENTS.

Cacti and succulents come from associated species, they are a universe of varieties, genera and hybrids, a wide set of species that are characterized by having bodies where they store water for their subsistence in the extreme climates where they live, they can store it in the leaves, the stem or roots, succulents have the peculiarity of photosynthesis in two phases: nocturnal and diurnal, giving these species the vital force to endure and reproduce in extreme environments; with 10,000 species of 50 or 60 botanical families Approximately, they are works of art of Nature. Cactaceae and many other families that belong to this group such as Aloes, Yuccas and Agaves.

Melocactus curvispinus sp. Seeds collected from these two titanic specimens with huge cephalics, 5 days sown in plastic trays covered hermetically with quartz sand and charcoal, a good substrate to germinate your Cati seeds, I recommend taking the sand to use in an oven to sterilize it with More than 35 species the Melocatus... it should be noted that this species has been looted from its natural environment and as a consequence they are in danger of extinction therefore it is best to buy seeds of this species from specialized growers to avoid the black market and thus avoid decimating the population of this beautiful American species

The growth of this species is very slow and some reach adulthood after a few years. The lobes are accompanied by groups of spines arranged on the edge of them, the size, color and number vary according to the species. When they reach their full maturity, they produce a structure at their apex called Cephalium. It is a kind of cotton mixed with fine thorns of various colors depending on the species. In this structure, flowers and fruits grow to perpetuate this genus.

@qurator, Thanks you very much for the support!

Are they all yours? Graptopetalum looks really pretty.
And I hope you will keep us updated on the little seedlings :)

@monster-one look! More cacti babies :)

I love Mammillaria prolifera, I bought one yesterday with two flowers and three more to open, this is getting more and more interesting and I love that I am learning new names and species.

What strikes me is that those babies are also turning a little red like mine 🤔

@monster-one That makes me very happy in the region where I live in Venezuela. There are many interesting cacti. I will soon make a post about the cacti of my Region, among which there is Mammillaria voburnensis ssp. it is very beautiful its flowering and fruits are a visual spectacle. Thanks for the support and comment!

It is also strange to me, it is the first time that I see them of that color, they are generally lemon green until a certain age but these babies are made of seeds of very long-lived and enormous cacti, the largest Melocactus that I have seen look like elves from afar.

Greetings.

You are hooked! :D

Yes, they are. But there are also green ones.
I'm sure they all will be fine :)

@ewkaw Yes they are mine. I live in a region where there are many cacti. It is an arid region with a constant climate between 33º and 40º all year round, it rains little and there are many species, including Mammillaria voburnensis ssp. In some regions of Venezuela they are being finished by unscrupulous hands, they sell them collected from Nature and that is a crime. I have never extracted any cactus from Nature the fruits if to sow the seeds!
Thanks for the support!
This is how I will take photos of the development of the Melocactus. regards!

Nice! I hope you will show them more :) Also those growing in the wild. It would be nice to see them in their environment.
