Last Sunday I could not resist and I took part in another historical excursion, in the footsteps of the First World War!

The area concerned this time were the bunkers and trenches along the Piave river, in Sernaglia della Battaglia, in the province of Treviso.

We immediately headed towards the river by going down a steep road covered with dry leaves.

Another great surprise was the presence of natural caves, some of them very deep, which can be visited accompanied by expert speleologists.

This one in particular was really impressive.
You could proceed but the passage was tight the only way was lying down...it was not the right time!

Once out of the cave we continued the path along cultivated fields, always along the river.

At some point we came to this building which was used as an infirmary during the war.

It was time to have a packed lunch and to do so we decided to relax right in the middle of the river, in a dry spot.

An absolute peace, in true contrast to the bloody battles that took place right there!

After eating the sandwiches, we continued on a more internal path, which allowed us to rise in altitude, and have a higher view than the river.

Near a large vineyard, we stopped in front of the monument dedicated to an important Canadian aviator, who died when he was only eighteen.

Nei pressi di un grande vigneto, abbiamo fatto tappa di fronte al monumento dedicato ad un importante aviatore Canadese, morto a soli dicioto anni.
We set off again, crossing the beautiful Treviso countryside, among vast vineyards, centuries-old chestnut trees...

Ci siamo rimessi in cammino, attraversando la bella campagna trevigiana, tra vasti vigneti, castagni secolari...
This excursion has also come to an end and I really enjoyed it.
Eleven kilometers rich in history, landscape peculiarities that stimulated me step by step.

This looked like a lot of fun and discoveries. I love to travel to new places, learn their histories and soak in nature in all its forms.
Exactly, even in my opinion there is nothing better than exploring new places. I hope we will return to normal soon to do it with more freedom.
