Hello everyone!
Traveling is one of the most beautiful activities that exist because it is able to enrich the soul and eyes. Today I would like to take you to one of my favorite cities in Italy: Trieste. It is located in Northern Italy and is the capital of the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia.
This city has a very particular history, as it is a mix of cultures: Italian, German, Slovenian, Greek, Turkish, Jewish, ...
Because of the strategic position on the Adriatic Sea, it is remembered for being a key point in trade between Europe and Asia, for example in the famous "Silk Road".
This internationality can still be felt today, as the city is full of many influences, for example from the point of view of the cuisine and the languages spoken by the population.
Closely connected to the history of the city is my favorite square, called Piazza Unità d'Italia, famous for being the largest square in Europe that opens directly onto the sea!
It is one of the most important squares in the city and certainly the most fascinating.
Trieste is called with various nicknames, such as "city of the bora", "city of the wind", "city of coffee".
The first two refer to the bora, a type of wind with an East-Northeast direction that characterizes the area. It is a very discontinuous wind, that is blowing in gusts, sometimes of great intensity.
Numerous poets and writers have dedicated stories and verses about this event, almost as if the bora was a real person. It is difficult to explain in words what it means to see Trieste with the bora, it is a unique show that frightens and makes you smile at the same time, because it is a charge of pure energy. The bora can even reach speeds of 150 km/h!
The third nickname refers to the particular relationship between Trieste and coffee. Indeed, the seeds of this plant are closely linked to the economic growth of the city. But it does not end here: over the centuries numerous literary cafes were born, or places where intellectuals found themselves discussing important issues of Trieste's life, and hence the importance of the moment of coffee grew exponentially.
In Trieste there is also a very special way to order coffee, a habit that exists only here and I have never found anywhere else in Italy.
For example, to order an espresso you say a "nero", while a macchiato coffee will be a "capo" and a cappuccino is called "caffelatte".
Here is one of the ancient literary cafes:
Miramare Castle is located a few km from the historic center but is easily accessible by public transport.
It is a real jewel immersed in a protected natural area and, in my opinion, worth a visit because it is truly a marvel for the eyes.
The castle was born in 1855 by the will of Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg who decided to have a residence on the outskirts of Trieste built according to his rank, overlooking the sea and surrounded by an extensive garden.
The beauty of this building can be seen both inside, in the richly decorated and frescoed rooms, with sumptuous furnishings, and outside, as we find a beautiful garden directly overlooking the sea with exotic and continental plants.

As a science enthusiast, I certainly could not miss the Civic Museum of Natural History.
It is a modern concept museum which is suitable for enthusiasts of all ages. There are also numerous practical activities for children to discover the beautiful world of fossils, prehistoric man, etc ...
As soon as you enter, there are rooms completely dedicated to the world of minerals, which I love! Continuing, the museum offers numerous rooms dedicated to the discovery of biology: the origins of life, the giants of the sea, the sharks of the museum, Karst environments and much more!
Next to the museum of which I have just spoken, there is another which in my opinion is really valid, named "Museum of the War for Peace Diego Henriquez".
This museum deals with all the main aspects of the first and second world wars, showing elements such as the everyday lives of soldiers, cannons and heavy vehicles,… A selection of war-themed contemporary art is also hosted.
Trieste is a city waiting to be discovered. In addition to the attractions that I mentioned above, the must-sees are:
- Civic Museum of the Risiera of San Sabba: The building was born in 1913 to hold rice stocks but, during the Second World War, the German occupation used this place to transport, detain and exterminate several prisoners. Many occupants of the Risiera came then and the Aushwitz-Birkenau concentration camps and it is estimated that more than 3000 people died in the Risiera concentration camp. Today we can find in this place a beautiful museum that remembers the victims;
- Revoltella Museum: This is a three-storey modern art gallery that spans the centuries dealing with numerous artistic currents. The rooms are richly frescoed and furnished and each work of art is explained in detail. I absolutely recommend the visit!

Viaggiare è una delle attività più belle che esistono perché è in grado di arricchire l’animo e gli occhi. Oggi mi piacerebbe portarvi in una delle città italiane che mi piacciono di più: Trieste. Si trova nel Nord Italia ed è il capoluogo della regione autonoma del Friuli-Venezia-Giulia.
Questa città ha una storia davvero particolare, in quanto è un intreccio di culture: italiana, tedesca, slovena, greca, turca, ebraica, …
A causa della strategica posizione sul Mare Adriatico, è ricordata per essere stata un punto chiave nei commerci tra Europa e Asia, ad esempio nella famosa “Via della seta”.
Questa internazionalità si respira ancora tutt’oggi, in quanto la città risente di molte influenze, anche solo banalmente dal punto di vista della cucina e delle lingue parlate dalla popolazione.
Strettamente collegata alla storia della città vi è la mia piazza preferita, denominata Piazza Unità d’Italia, famosa per essere la più grande piazza d'Europa che si apre direttamente sul mare!
Si tratta di una delle piazze più famose della città e di certo la più affascinante.
Trieste viene chiamata con diversi nomignoli, come “città della bora”, “città del vento”, “città del caffè”.
I primi due si riferiscono alla bora, una tipologia di vento con direzione Est-Nordest che caratterizza la zona. Si tratta di un vento molto discontinuo, ovvero che soffia a raffiche, talvolta di grande intensità.
Numerosi poeti e scrittori hanno dedicato racconti e versi su questo evento, quasi come se la bora fosse una persona vera e propria. È difficile spiegare a parole che cosa significhi vedere Trieste con la bora, è uno spettacolo unico che spaventa e rallegra allo stesso tempo, perché è una carica di pura energia. La bora può raggiungere anche velocità di 150 km/h!
Il terzo soprannome si riferisce al rapporto particolare dei triestini con il caffè. Infatti, i semi di questa pianta sono strettamente legati alla crescita economica della città. Ma non finisce qui: nei secoli nacquero numerosi caffè letterari, ovvero luoghi nei quali gli intellettuali si ritrovavano a discutere di importanti questioni della vita triestina, e da qui l’importanza del momento del caffè crebbe in modo esponenziale.
Pensate che a Trieste esiste anche un modo tutto particolare per ordinare il caffè, un’abitudine che esiste solo qui e non ho mai trovato in nessun’altra parte d’Italia. Per esempio, per ordinare un espresso si usa dire un “nero”, mentre un caffè macchiato sarà un “capo” e un cappuccino è chiamato “caffelatte”.
Ecco uno degli antichi caffè letterari:
Il Castello di Miramare si trova a qualche km dal centro storico ma è facilmente raggiungibile con i mezzi pubblici. Si tratta di un vero e proprio gioiello immerso in un’area naturale protetta e, a parer mio, merita una visita perché è davvero una meraviglia per gli occhi.
Il castello nacque nel 1855 per volontà dell’arciduca Massimiliano d’Asburgo che decise di farsi costruire alla periferia di Trieste una residenza consona al proprio rango, affacciata sul mare e cinta da un esteso giardino.
La bellezza di questo edificio si vede sia all’interno, nelle sale riccamente decorate e affrescate, con sontuosi arredi, sia all’esterno, in quanto troviamo un bellissimo giardino affacciato direttamente sul mare con piante esotiche e continentali.
Vi lascio con un piccolo video che fa vedere la bellezza e la limpidezza delle acque nei dintorni del Castello di Miramare.
Da appassionata di scienza, non potevo di certo non andare a fare una visita al Museo Civico di Storia Naturale.
Si tratta di un museo di moderna concezione che è adatto ad appassionati di tutte le età. Anche per i bambini vi sono numerose attività pratiche per scoprire il bellissimo mondo dei fossili, dell’uomo preistorico, etc…
Appena si entra, ci sono delle stanze completamente dedicate al mondo dei minerali, che io adoro! Proseguendo, il museo propone numerose sale dedicate alla scoperta della biologia: le origini della vita, i giganti del mare, gli squali del museo, ambienti del Carso e molto altro!
Accanto al museo di cui ho appena parlato, se ne trova un altro che secondo me è davvero valido, dal nome “Museo della Guerra per la Pace Diego Henriquez”.
Questo museo affronta tutti gli aspetti principali della prima e della seconda guerra mondiale, mostrando elementi come la quotidianità dei soldati, i cannoni e i mezzi pesanti, … È anche ospitata una selezione di arte contemporanea a tema bellico.
Trieste è una città tutta da scoprire. Oltre alle attrazioni che ho menzionato sopra, assolutamente da non perdere sono anche:
- Civico Museo della Risiera di San Sabba: L’edificio nacque nel 1913 per detenere le scorte di riso ma, durante la seconda guerra mondiale, l’occupazione tedesca sfruttò questo luogo per trasportare, detenere e sterminare diversi prigionieri. Molti occupanti della Risiera vennero poi trasportati nei campi di concentramento di Aushwitz-Birkenau e si stima che più di 3000 persone morirono nel campo di concentramento della Risiera. Oggi possiamo trovare in questo luogo un bellissimo museo che ricorda le vittime;
- Museo Revoltella: Si tratta di una galleria d’arte moderna su tre piani che spazia nei secoli trattando numerose correnti artistiche. Le sale sono riccamente affrescate e arredate e ogni opera d’arte è spiegata nei minimi dettagli. Consiglio assolutamente la visita!

Confermo, d’inverno non è per niente facile convivere con questo vento gelido, anche perché dura per diversi giorni ma i velisti ci vanno a nozze, la Barcolana è forse l’evento numero uno della città.
Sul caffè c’è una vera e propria cultura principalmente portata dall’industria Illy. 😆😆

Beautiful photos of the 18th century rococo style furnishings and settings. There is something rather persistently beautiful about that style of decor. Same goes for that period regarding architecture. That was a wonderful read and scroll through. Happily upvoted and rehived.

Sorry that you are experiencing this issue. Is it possible that you deleted the post in your TravelFeed dashboard?
Yes I did, because I tried to publish it some hours ago but it wasn't visible on Hive platform, the post was only on Travelfeed.io, so I decided to delete everything, log-out, log-in again and re-connect my Hive profile (as suggested from one of your moderators via email). But maybe it wasn't the best idea :( it doesn't matter, just tell me please what can I do for the next times? Are there some problems with my account?

The issue with your account was that it didn't have posting authority granted to TravelFeed which is usually done when you login with or connect your Hive account, maybe something went wrong there on our side or you revoked the posting authority manually at one point. Without posting authority our system can't post your post to Hive. This issue shouldn't surface again, unless you manually revoke the posting authority.
If you manually delete a post it's deleted permanently from TravelFeed (we do that to comply with privacy laws), but not from Hive (since nothing can really be deleted from a blockchain), but you can always post it again from your latest drafts (under Dashboard -> Drafts -> Published). If you use the same title there shouldn't be a double post on Hive, or you can disable posting to Hive for that one post in the seo tool :)
