in TravelFeed4 years ago

Over the years, traveling has increased tenfold. Visiting the scenic Bali, spending the night in a secluded, rustic cabin, floating in the Dead Sea or having breakfast with giraffes at the Giraffe Manor are something you come across quite often on social media. While these travel locations can calm your nerves and appreciate the beauty of earth, there are a few locations that will send a chill down your spine.

The Island of the Dolls, Mexico

THE ISLAND OF THE DOLLS

If you happen to step into La Isla de las Muñecas, you might hear a young girl screaming 'I want my doll'. The origin of this story begins with Don Julián Santana who settled in the island sometime in 1950s. Not soon after coming to the island, he discovered the body of a young girl drowned in Lake Teshuilo and a doll which he assumed belonged to the girl.

Succeeding this incident, Santana started collecting dolls from trash and hung them on the trees. The belief behind this uncanny act is that he did it to pacify the dead girl's spirit who frightened him. There is no evidence to prove that Santana actually found the body of a young girl in the lake. Since he lived alone in the island and the state of his mental health was not at its best, people, including his own family believed he made it all up.

To make everything even more unsettling, Santana drowned in the exact spot he supposedly found the girl's body in 2001. At present, the island is a popular travel destination for anyone with a love for macabre. Visitors can hang dolls on the trees as a means of blessing or worship. Additionally, a museum with articles and newspapers featuring the island and its owner exists. Santana's favorite and oldest doll Agustinita can also be found there.

Winchester Mystery House, California

WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE

The construction of the Winchester Mystery House went on from 1884 to 1922. Built without the help of an architect or a master plan, the house is anything but systematic and occupies 160-acre lot.

Sarah Winchester was the owner of the house. She was the wife of William Winchester who owned a rifle manufacturing company called 'Winchester Repeating Arms Company'. She lost her infant daughter as well as her husband to untimely death. This tossed her into a world of darkness and soon she seeked the help of a medium to identify the cause behind the tragedies.

It is believed that she contacted her husband's spirit who stated that their rifles were responsible for many deaths. Therefore, in order to pacify the angry spirits she has to move to the West and build a home for them. However, she can't stop the construction once its done. She must keep building or she will die.

Inheriting millions of dollars after her husband's death and fifty percent ownership of the rifle company allowed her to fund for the construction and follow the spirit's directions. The construction went on day and night and finally, a seven-story mansion was built with approximately 160 rooms (possibly more). The house was demolished and then reconstructed until Sarah passed away in 1922. Today, the house is four-story tall and awaiting your visit in San Jose. You can spend the night if you dare.
