STREET ART #120 – Celebrating 50 years of friendship with new street art (Mauritius)

A couple of weeks ago when I was in Port Louis, I noticed a wall in Chinatown that was covered up, but I could see that a mural was hidden behind. On 28th of April when I was back in town, I went to check if the painting has been revealed. When I came into Sun Yat Sen street, there was a great uproar with people who looked important. The police music corps entertained and there were a lot of spectators. I asked a young man beside me about what was going on. He said that the mural will be revealed after the speeches. The mural has been painted in connection with the celebration of 50 years of friendship between Mauritius and China. I didn't wait for that, but came back later when the street was empty.

On the wall I read: «The Seven Wonders of Friendship». The mural has been designed in order to commenmorates the 50th anniversary of the establisment of the relations between Mauritius and China. To describe this friendship, the mural shows a fusion of the 7 wonders of each country: like the Chinese wall, the panda, martial art practitioner, temple, etc. The bird is the Dodo, the Mauritian bird that couldn't fly ( became extinct shortly after the island was colonized). The water lilies are the Giant water lily / Victoria Amazonica (found in Pamplemousses Botanic Garden) in Mauritius.

A small metal sign on the wall tells about the two artists. Two sisters - Mary Emma and Jade-Marine Ng Tat Mew are two passionate artists who decided to follow their dreams when it comes to artistery works. They are the co-owners and founders of sa Landrwa La ltc (Des.2021) and ems._murals (2022). They have been painting and drawing since a young age with a passion to create unique designs to bring positivity through painting. On the sign it says that have a wholehearted dedication and has a motto they still live by: " Bringing your walls to life». The two sisters want to bring positive energy.

This is the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establisment of the China-Mauritius diplomatic ties. These ties have developed quite steadily during these 50 years and the cooperation is still developing. I also read somewhere (not on the wall) that Mauritius sighned a free trade agreement with China in 2021.

At the end of the street I found another new mural, but I don't think it has anything to do with the first.

The little opening is even done. You can truly see it is a celebration. 😁

The other find is great too, especially as it goes over the ground. Very cool!

It was my lucky day :) I was afraid I wouldn't it would't be revealed before after my holliday was over :)
