Los dientes permanentes son aquellos dientes que deben aparecer luego de la formación de los dientes temporales, o también llamados dientes de leche.
Los dientes permanentes se pueden conseguir por diversos nombres dentro de la terminología médica, entre ellos destacan los nombres de dentición permanente, segunda dentición, dentición secundaria o dientes secundarios.
Estos dientes se caracterizan por ser mucho más fuertes y grandes que los dientes de leche, ellos pasarán a formar parte de nuestro sistema dental para el resto de nuestra vida.
Cómo se ha explicado anteriormente, los dientes permanentes de dividen en cuatro grupos o cuatro familias, los incisivos, los caninos, los premorales y los molares o también llamado muelas, siendo así 22 dientes en total.
Cada tipo de diente tiene un tiempo exacto en el que comenzará a salir hacia el exterior del maxilar.
Las funciones de los dientes permanentes abarcan desde la masticación, la fonación, la estética y las expresiones faciales.
