Venezuelan Stamps Special / Philately Week (Churches, popular culture, beliefs)

With this publication I say goodbye to philately week. I was very happy to meet again with cultural aspects that thanks to some stamps have been possible.

Today I will speak randomly about Catholic Christian buildings, about celebrating 100 years of the diocese of one of the oldest cities in Venezuela. Maracaibo is located in the state of Zulia, was and still is a very important city because it has a very large lake that flows into the sea, a gulf. In the time of the Spanish colony it served as a port for routes to Spain for cocoa, coffee, gold and silver. It is presumed that it was in this city where Américo Vespucio and Alonso Ojeda who during an expedition in that area found aquatic buildings the natives call these constructions palafitos, the Italian merchant Vespucio compared it to Venezia, that is how he called it little Venezia and ended up becoming Venezuela.

A negative aspect that I consider fatal, is the fact of spending money printing Catholic Churches, it is not secret for anyone the atrocities that the Catholic Church committed in Venezuela not to name other countries. The church as an institution, persecuted and destroyed every vestige of indigenous beliefs, forcibly converted and thanks to elements of torture hundreds of thousands of Indians, changed their names, and considered that the aborigines were soulless beings and did not go to heaven. Is such the degree of ignorance or complacency with a criminal group that has killed in the name of Christ?

Moving on to other facets that have to do with beliefs in Venezuela, there is a series of stamps dedicated to a doctor named José Gregorio Hernandez, who devoted his life to healing the poor sick, died in an accident hit by one of the first cars in Venezuela in 1919. Shortly after, several miracles of healing were attributed to him and since then he began to be venerated. Today he hopes to be sanctified by the Catholic Church, however this does not proceed because this iconical character is used in rituals that are outside the religious belief of the church.

So far this is delivery of philately material provided by my wife @cvnuitter. Now it is my turn to investigate who owns a collection to make more publications, hopefully stamps from other countries, each one contains part of the universal culture and is a legacy of an activity that has almost disappeared, the messaging letters will be one of the most important treasures of humanity.

Thanks for reading
