¡¡¡NAVIDAD ESTÁ AQUÍ!!!
¡Hola Hivers! Este año para celebrar el inicio de la navidad, la escuela cercana a mi casa hizo algo que nunca antes habían hecho: un encendido de luces navideñas. Esto es algo completamente fuera de lo común en una comunidad donde para muchos de nosotros salir de noche suena aterrador, hemos perdido muchas horas del día a causa de la inseguridad y por eso dudé de que esta idea fuera a ser un éxito cuando mi papá me comentó que harían este evento. La escuela se llama "U.E.E. Maestro Jose Manuel Freitez". Mi papá trabaja ahí, mi hermana estudió allí, mis primas pequeñas, mi mamá. mi abuela, de hecho creo que la única asistente al evento de la familia que nunca estudió allí era yo 😅
Hi Hivers! This year to celebrate the beginning of Christmas, the school near my house did something they had never done before: a Christmas lights lighting. This is something completely out of the ordinary in a community where for many of us going out at night sounds scary, we have lost many hours of the day because of insecurity and that's why I doubted this idea would be a success when my dad told me they would do this event. The school is called "U.E.E. Maestro Jose Manuel Freitez". My dad works there, my sister studied there, my little cousins, my mom, my grandmother, in fact I think the only one attending the event in the family who never studied there was me.
Las personas comenzaron a llegar faltando apenas unos minutos para las seis de la tarde, y esto puede sonar muy temprano para ustedes, pero es que a las 6:30 ya era completamente de noche, aquí oscurece temprano en comparación a sitios como México donde una amiga vive y me dice que a esa hora todavía se ve el sol radiante.
Antes de encender las luces podía verse la decoración con dibujos y globos, algo sencillo pero muy bonito. A los niños les gustó mucho la forma de estrella.
People started arriving just a few minutes before six o'clock in the evening, and this may sound very early for you, but at 6:30 it was already completely dark, here it gets dark early compared to places like Mexico where a friend of mine lives and she tells me that at that time the sun is still shining.
Before turning on the lights you could see the decoration with drawings and balloons, something simple but very nice. The kids really liked the star shape.
Al inicio también creíamos que era muy temprano, se veía claro para encender las luces, luego veíamos a lo lejos en los cerros al rededor que estaba lloviendo, por suerte la lluvia no nos alcanzó, y así sin darnos cuenta oscureció por completo.
Aquí andábamos mi mamá @jessiencasa, con la blusa de rayas, mi hermana @jes.seth, con el gorro de navidad, y yo detrás de la cámara jaja por ahí salgo también en otras fotos. También mi abuelo, abuela, primas, sus hijos, y es que así como es primera vez que hacen el encendido, es primera vez que se hace una convocatoria abierta a la comunidad.
At the beginning we also thought it was too early, it looked clear to turn on the lights, then we saw in the distance in the surrounding hills that it was raining, luckily the rain did not reach us, and so without realizing it it got completely dark.
Here was my mom @jessiencasa, with the striped blouse, my sister @jes.seth, with the Christmas hat, and me behind the camera haha I'm also in other pictures. Also my grandfather, grandmother, cousins, their children, and it is the first time that they do the lighting, it is the first time that an open call is made to the community.
Esta es una escuela con muchos años, mi abuela estudió aquí cuando aún daban solo hasta tercer grado, es pequeña, en una comunidad de bajos recursos, de hecho, todo este evento salió de los bolsillos de las maestras que realmente deseaban hacerlo, y darle una experiencia diferente a los niños en lugar del tradicional parrandón navideño. Todos vinieron con sus gorros navideños, algunos hasta con bufandas. Antes de entrar para el encendido estaban todos jugando, corriendo, aprovechando que tenían libertad por estar la calle custodiada por las personas.
This is a school with many years, my grandmother studied here when they still only taught up to third grade, it is small, in a low income community, in fact, this whole event came out of the pockets of the teachers who really wanted to do it, and give a different experience to the children instead of the traditional Christmas party. Everyone came with their Christmas hats, some even with scarves. Before entering for the lighting they were all playing, running around, and taking advantage of the freedom they had because the street was guarded by people.
Los adultos un poco se preocupaban por iniciar pronto, como digo, a todos nos saca de nuestra zona de comfort estar afuera en la noche, pero estando toda la comunidad, había seguridad. Los niños por otra parte se lo estaban disfrutando, estuvieron corriendo y jugando todo el rato antes de entrar, cantaron la canción Tun Tun mientras se abrían las puertas, y una vez dentro fueron todos a ver las presentaciones organizadas por las maestras y los estudiantes de los diferentes grados.
The adults were a little worried about starting early, as I said, it takes all of us out of our comfort zone to be out at night, but with the whole community, there was security. The children, on the other hand, were enjoying it, they were running and playing all the time before entering, they sang the Tun Tun song as the doors opened, and once inside they all went to see the presentations organized by the teachers and the students of the different grades.

Por ser algo hecho con poco presupuesto, no había muchas expectativas en cómo se vería, pero esa es la magia de la navidad, y de las luces. Una vez estuvo todo encendido se veía hermoso, además había un dispositivo tipo las esferas de discoteca que daba mucho dinamismo. Además de eso, por ser de noche, no hubo pausas largas entre las presentaciones, así que los ánimos se mantuvieron altos de principio a fin.
Because it was something made with little budget, there were not many expectations on how it would look, but that is the magic of Christmas, and of the lights. Once everything was turned on it looked beautiful, there was also a disco sphere type device that gave a lot of dynamism. On top of that, since it's late at night, there were no long breaks between performances, so spirits stayed high from start to finish.
Mi papá como dije trabaja en esta escuela, y siempre ayuda a que las cosas funcionen como deben hacerlo y se mantenga el orden, pues no le gusta que el desorden y la falta de preparación en cosas que se pueden prever totalmente sea lo que retrase o dañe un evento.
Estuvo al pendiente del sonido, de que las luces estuvieran funcionando, que las personas dieran espacio para quienes se presentaban,y tengo que decir que él siempre da más de lo que es su deber, y estoy segura que la participación de los niños en parte se debe a como él los ha estado motivando a convivir como grupo, a participar de las actividades, incluso en el receso les enseñó a jugar metras, un juego tradicional que se había perdido en la escuela, y le da de las suyas para que puedan jugar. Los niños le dicen profe todo el tiempo, lo saludan siempre que se lo encuentran en la calle.
My dad, as I said, works at this school, and he always helps things work as they should and order is maintained, because he doesn't like that disorder and lack of preparation in things that can be totally foreseen is what delays or damage an event
He was aware of the sound, that the lights were working, that people gave space for those who showed up, and I have to say that he always gives more than his duty, and I'm sure that the participation of the children partly It is due to how he has been motivating them to live together as a group, to participate in the activities, even at recess he taught them to play metras, a traditional game that had been lost at school, and he gives them his so they can play. The children call him teacher all the time, they greet him whenever they meet him on the street.
Nuestras cámaras no son muy aptas para eventos nocturnos, así que no pudimos conseguir muy buenas fotos del evento como tal. Sin embargo me encanta la cantidad de fotos más abstractas que pudimos sacar, donde las luces fueron las protagonistas. Y creo que son estas fotos las que realmente expresan lo que se sentía estar allí, con la música, el movimiento, y todo el mundo riendo. También un poco la confusión de no ver mucho fuera del escenario, entre las luces intermitentes y la oscuridad.
Our cameras are not very suitable for night events, so we were not able to get very good photos of the event itself. However, I love the number of more abstract photos that we were able to take, where the lights were the protagonists. And I think it's these photos that really express what it felt like to be there, with the music, the movement, and everyone laughing. Also a bit of the confusion of not seeing much offstage, between the flashing lights and the darkness.
Afortunadamente el evento terminó sin ningún incidente, mostró que es posible organizar algo así, que la comunidad en general está dispuesta a mostrar su apoyo, y tal vez el próximo año pueda ser algo más grande, y lo que más me gustaría es que esto comience a cambiar el patrón en los niños, quienes los últimos años han mostrado un gran decaimiento en su interés por la escuela, y ha habido un incremento en aquellos que no quieren estudiar y además acaban en malas andanzas.
En lo personal creo que esto tiene mucho que ver con lo aislados que hemos sido, en el descuido que ha habido con la educación de los niños, pues se crían en la calle pero no como hace décadas que todos conocían a los hijos de todos y se ayudaban a cuidarlos, sino de verdad en la calle, expuestos a las malas influencias.
Fortunately the event ended without any incident, it showed that it is possible to organize something like this, that the community in general is willing to show their support, and maybe next year it can be something bigger, and what I would most like is for this to start to change the pattern in children, who in recent years have shown a great decline in their interest in school, and there has been an increase in those who do not want to study and also end up in bad ways.
Personally, I think this has a lot to do with how isolated we have been, with the neglect that has occurred with the education of children, since they are raised on the street but not like decades ago when everyone knew everyone's children and They helped each other take care of them, but really on the street, exposed to bad influences.
Esperamos esta actividad genere una nueva tradición en la que la comunidad y la escuela puedan integrarse, para conocernos a todos y volver a criar a los niños dentro de un entorno sano, divertido y seguro.
Así inició la época navideña en mi pequeño sector llamado "Retén Abajo", de una manera inusual e inesperadamente exitosa. Tal vez así sea el próximo año 2023, inusual, inesperado, pero de manera positiva.
We hope this activity generates a new tradition in which the community and the school can integrate, to get to know each other and to raise the children again in a healthy, fun and safe environment.
Thus began the Christmas season in my small sector called "Reten Abajo", in an unusual and unexpectedly successful way. Maybe this is how the coming year 2023 will be, unusual, unexpected, but in a positive way.
