Dear Monday Inventor,
I hope this letter meets you wherever you may be, because I have a lot to say. I have been meaning to write to you for a long time, and today feels like the perfect moment. I want to know the reason why you invented monday. I want to understand what was going through your mind when you decided that Monday should exist the way it does. I don't know about other people, but for me, out of all the days you could have shaped differently, why did you choose to make Monday the one that wakes me up with stress, with so much pressure and early morning alarm clock?
To be honest with you, Mr. Inventor, I still don’t understand why Monday cannot behave like Friday or Saturday. These two days feel like friends who care about my peace of mind, friends who care about my wellbeing. Friday comes to me with relief because it has carries the entire weekend on its back. Saturday gives me the freedom to wake up whenever I like, stretch and row myself in my bed however I want, and decide what I want to do that day without any rush. But Monday? Oh my God! Monday comes like an unexpected visitor who bangs on the door at dawn and tells me to get up immediately.
You could have made Monday with a little stress free. You could have made it a day where work starts late, or where we ease into the week without pressure. But instead, you created it to be the day that always reminds me that rest is over and reality has returned. Whenever Sunday evening approaches, my heart begins to feel very heavy. I start thinking of work waiting for me. I start calculating how early I need to wake up. I begin wondering how bad the traffic will be. Most times, the thought alone is already stressful, even before the day comes.
And talking about traffic, Mr. Inventor, what exactly were you aiming for? Monday traffic is on another level. It is as if the whole world suddenly has an appointment at the same time. Buses are full everywhere, cars are struggling for space, everyone is rushing, and the roads feel tighter than usual to a point it cannot longer hold cars together. Many times, I sit in traffic sometimes and ask myself why you did not just make Monday to be quieter and calm like weekends. Maybe a half day or maybe a stress free day or even better, why not make Monday behave like Saturday, where the only rush is deciding whether to eat breakfast or go back to sleep?

Sometimes I imagine how life would be if Monday started at noon. Imagine a world where everyone wakes up at anytime of the morning. I mean where people takes their time wake up, and then begins work when the sun is friendly. I am sure people would love Monday more. We would not have to drag ourselves out of bed while it’s still half dark. We would not have to think too much about deadlines the moment we open our eyes. But maybe you had your reasons. Maybe you wanted to remind us that life is not all about rest. Or maybe, you just didn’t think about how we would feel years later.
Still, I must admit that Monday has it blessing whether I like it or not, it resets life. It always tells me that a new week has started, and that I have another chance to try again even though it comes with stress, early waking, and heavy traffic.
But Mr. Inventor, next time you think of creating any day that looks like Monday, please think twice. Make it something closer to Friday or Saturday. Give me and every other person time to breathe. Life is already stressful, we don’t need a day that adds extra weight.
Until then, I will keep surviving Monday the best way I can.
Yours sincerely,
A Monday Survivor @joshel
