#Beersaturday at Range Brewing (Australia)

in BEER3 years ago

Okay, well it was actually a Sunday but I managed to get along to Range Brewing's brand new bar in Melbourne.

Now Range are actually a Brewery from Brisbane - for those non-Australians that's about 2000km North of Melbourne - For the Americans who don't use the metric system - I really can't help you.

Now Range's shtick is that they make (mainly) IPA's - many of them the NEIPA variety and that they release 4 new beers every Friday - most are gone by the end of the weekend, so beers may get brewed again, some maybe not. It's a pretty good business plan, keeps people coming back week on week.

Now they have added the twist that they release the same beers in Brisbane and Melbourne at exactly the same time - everything is brewed in Brissy so that is some pretty good logistics to get every down here quick and cold.

Of course this sthick only works if you also make great beer and lucky for Range they do - almost everything of theirs I've got my hands on has been brilliant so I was a little bit excited to head into the bar and have a couple of rounds (before heading across the road to another brewery to meet some friends for dinner)

As you might be able to tell from this shot everything in the bar is super Scandinavian - Scandi weirdly works in Australia - all that white minimalism paired with 70's style indoor plants strangely matches an Australian pysche.

As you can also see there are two stunning looking beers. On the left is a beer called "No thanks I'm sweet enough' which is a raspberry and coffee sour beer - now if you think that shouldn't work you would be right - but somehow a beer which has waves of plunge black coffee, raspberry and sherberty sourness is actually a plesant experience.

On the right - Pretty Good for a Tuesday - A west coast IPA - with El Dorado and Simcoe hops and it was pretty darn good - nice piney notes coming through, and very very drinkable.

Just a little detour back into architecture, the bar has three sections - the streetfront which the taps and whatnot, a big cold storage area, a little indoor bar which is where we are sitting and then a smallish beer garden through big glass door - beer garden filled with beer geeks who look the same whether you are in Copenhagen or Melbourne - I particularly like the two people in Co-conspirators outfits as that is another Ausssie craft brewery.

But back to the beer - I know these two beer look similar to the first round, but I promise you they are different. The dark red, almost purple one is Jam: Boynesberry and Cherry which is another sour - this was maybe the weakest Range beer I've had - it was just okay, sort of a generic sour - still okay but not up to their usual standards

On the right - Double Disco - Which is a 8.4% double IPA brewed with Citra and Simcoe - now if you know anything about beer and me you'll know the words Double, IPA, Citra and Simcoe can only mean one thing - happiness, this beer is absolutely stunning, it's balanced, it's citrusy is a classic amercian style IPA without any gimmicks just an amazing beer

So if you find yourself in either Melbourne or Brisbane seek out Range brewing - Can't tell you what they will have one - but whatever you have you will not be disappointed

Cheers! I cheer for Double Disco! 🍺 🍻 😎

That Double Disco IPA sounds like serious tack! A good bang out of it at 8.5% too I'd say.

The comments about Scandinavian architecture suiting Australia is interesting - I can see what you mean.
