Beer Tasting: Aventinus Eisbock & O'Hara's Irish Red

in BEER β€’ 2 years ago

Hello, beer tasters! 🍻 😎 🍻

Finally, the much-awaited Saturday! Today I decided to be completely static. I'm not going anywhere, not expecting visitors, rest 100%.

But the 267th #BeerSaturday is in play, and that's the only activity I'm going to devote myself to. :) 😁

Today calls for caution, I must avoid the usual, everyday beers and focus on the two I have chosen.
One wheat Bavarian, one Irish, both dark but brewed with a completely different process.
I'm already curious what it will be.

First the one with the lower alcohol content.

🍻 😎 🍻 😎 🍻

O'Hara Irish Red Traditional Ale

Brewed by O'Hara's Brewery (Carlow Brewing Company), Bagenalstown, Ireland.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.3% ABV, 25 IBU. It's Red Ale or Irish Ale style, malty and low in hops.

What do the Master Brewers say?

This Red stands out in this beer style category. The malt body is as impressive as a bock, albeit in a uniquely Irish way. With an incredibly smooth malt body complimented by caramel tones and perfectly balanced in bitterness, this Irish Red is much more complex than its mainstream rivals.

Ok, everything is perfect, balanced, and caramelish. I tasted a few O'Hara's brewery beers and they were still quite solid. And 25 IBU is not so low ...

The beer is amber in color, the head is nothing special. I smell malt.
Fresh and cold, the sip goes down the throat smoothly, in the mouth hop bitterness and a discreet taste of caramel, the sweetness of the malt is more in the background, and I can also taste some forest aromas.
The finish is more bitter than the start and this bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for quite some time.

Even better than I expected. Positively surprised. Fresh, drinkable, just enough bitterness, I think even more suitable for some summer heat and drinking on the beach than lager.
To be obtained in local shops so this is definitely not the last one.

Since I'm at home and not going anywhere just one beer meme for today :)

Schneider Weisse Tap 09 - Aventinus Eisbock

Brewed by Schneider Weisse G. Schneider & Sohn, Kelheim, Bavaria, Germany.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 12% ABV, 15 IBU. Eisbock or Ice-Bock style refers to the process of freezing and concentrating the beer. These types of beers are dark, strong, and malty with strong flavors. It's a wheat beer, non-filtered and non-pasteurized, suitable as a digestif.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Unfathomably senseous. Magic and a black soul - the mahogany coloured, almost black "Eisbock" for sensuous indulgence, best served in a balloon glas. Matured in a special freezing process following a special recipe, with a soft, elegant body, but still intensive. Spicy flavours of plum, banana and clove reveal themselves along with a hint of bitter almond and marzipan.

Ugh, dangerous thing this, 12% alcohol in such a small bottle :), I don't have any food to go with it, not even a balloon glass ...

The beer is dark brown, cloudy, with almost no head and disappears quickly. It smells of prunes.

Sips slowly down the throat, the liquid is thick, almost like oil. It tastes of bitter chocolate, molasses, plums and dark bread. Neither not overly sweet, maybe a little sour.
You can't even taste the alcohol in the beer (I'll see what happens later 😁). In the aftertaste, bitter chocolate and plums remains for a while.

Very complex and distinct flavours for me at the moment. I don't like it. Maybe I should really try it with some food, as they recommend, or chill it down a bit.

I have no doubt that the master brewers have done their best, but it doesn't work for me. It seems too heavy for summer.
Otherwise, in its category is very well rated.

And what am I listening to as I write this? Again, something from my yesterday #newtunes post. The last hit of Gorillaz.

O Haras have solid beers, glad you enjoyed it and dig the new toolbelt!! 🀣🀣

Hahah, yes, the toolbelt is a good invention. But I prefer it, maybe for bigger cans! 😎 🍻

Ha ha make it patent it and I'll buy 10 of ya straight of the bat 🀣

That Eisbock sounds amazing

If you like this kind of style could be a surprise for you, for sure :)

First sounded spot on, second has unusual undertones that would not satisfy my palette either, well presented thanks for review.
