Eight years might seem like just a number, but for me, it means many early mornings, lessons shared and learned, and memories made both in and out of the classroom. As I mark my 8th year teaching in the Department of Education (DepEd), I reflect on what I have achieved and how much I have grown, both personally and professionally, in this ever-changing field.

When I started teaching, I felt both excited and unsure. I believed I was ready with my lesson plans, strategies, and what I learned in school. But I soon realized teaching is much more than giving lessons. It means understanding students from diverse backgrounds, meeting their needs, and connecting with them not just academically but also emotionally and socially. My first year was full of both enthusiasm and challenges, and each day brought victories and lessons in humility.

Over the years, I found my own rhythm. I learned that every school year is different. Each group of students brings new personalities, challenges, and happiness. Teaching has helped me become more patient and to refresh my kindness every day. There were times when I felt tired, doubted myself, or wondered if I was doing enough. But moments like seeing a struggling student finally understand, noticing small acts of kindness, or hearing words of thanks made it all worth it and stayed with me longer than any award.

Over time, I realized that teaching changes me as much as it changes my students. I have grown in ways I never expected. I am more patient, understanding, and steady. I have learned to listen not just to words, but to the feelings behind them. I have learned to adjust, let go of trying to be perfect, and focus on moving forward. Most of all, I now see that growth never stops and is not a final goal.

Now that I have been teaching for 8 years, I can see how much I have changed. I am not the same teacher who depended on strict notes and routines. Today, I am more flexible, thoughtful, and open to new ideas. I bring creativity to my lessons, use resources wisely, and connect more effectively with my students. The classroom is now a place where we learn together and respect each other.

Of course, the journey has not been without struggles. Of course, this journey has had its struggles. Sometimes resources were limited, workloads were heavy, and personal problems affected my motivation. But every challenge helped me grow. I learned to manage my time, ask for help when needed, and remember why I teach. In DepEd, I learned that resilience means not just facing difficulties, but showing up with purpose even when things are hard.
Taking time to reflect on my experiences has helped me appreciate how far I have come. It has also allowed me to identify areas where I can still improve. I have become more intentional in my teaching practice, always asking myself how I can do better for my learners. Whether it is improving my instructional strategies, enhancing classroom management, or deepening my understanding of child development, I continue to strive for self-improvement.

Another meaningful realization is the importance of relationships in teaching.I have also realized how important relationships are in teaching. My connections with students, other teachers, school leaders, and parents have been key to my journey. Working together and supporting each other has made hard times easier and successes more special. Teaching is not something you do alone; it works best when everyone is committed and works as a team. Being a teacher means being a constant example of kindness, discipline, integrity, and perseverance. It means understanding that every word and action can influence a child’s future. This awareness pushes me to become more mindful in everything I do, both inside and outside the classroom.

Now, in my eighth year in DepEd, I feel deeply grateful. I am thankful for the students who have taught me patience and joy, for colleagues who support me, and for the challenges that made me stronger. Most of all, I am grateful for the chance to keep doing what I love: teaching and inspiring young minds.
Looking ahead, I know my journey is not finished. There is still a lot to learn, improve, and share. I hope to keep growing as a teacher and as someone who makes a positive difference in others' lives. My eight years in DepEd are more than a milestone; it reminds me that teaching is a lifelong journey of learning, reflection, and change.
Oh, wow! Congrats! You indeed have a beautiful reflection. It captures both the dedication and the personal journey behind those eight years. What stands out is how you’ve woven together the professional milestones with the human side of teaching: the early mornings, the lessons exchanged, and the memories beyond the classroom. Great job, Teacher! 👏
Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️🥰
You're most welcome. If only I am patient as you, I might have also secured my slot in DepEd. However, I guess, it's not really my calling. I just entertain teaching now as freelance job, not a regular one.
I believed teaching is a mission to change lives, make a difference and be an inspiration. Good thing you found your purpose in life and you made a wonderful reflection.
Indeed, i hope I can do more with my profession especially when it comes to teaching and helping my students reaching their dreams 🥰
