En enero el Manchester City era líder de la Premier League, con una amplia diferencia de puntos que parecía inalcanzable. Pero como el balón es redondo, permitió dejar unos puntos en las siguientes fechas, y aunque el Chelsea también resbaló, el Liverpool siguió con paso firme. Y ahora, tres meses después y con sólo 24 puntos por disputar, llega éste cotejo con sabor a una final. El Manchester City es líder, pero con 73 puntos. Y el Liverpool es segundo, con un punto menos. ¡Éste es el partido del fin de semana!
En la fecha 7 se enfrentaron y empataron en Anfield. Dejaron todo para el segundo tiempo, donde se dieron cachetada tras cachetada. Los reds se adelantaron pero los sky blues lograron igualar. Y pronto los de casa volvieron a anotar, y cinco minutos después la visita logró igualar de nuevo. Un partido donde ambos no hicieron todos sus cambios permitidos. El Manchester City presenta como titulares a jugadores habituales. Sólo salta a la vista la presencia como lateral derecho a Walker. El medio es predecible, teniendo a Rodri como 5 y Kevin de Bruyne con Bernardo Silva acompañándolo de cada lado. Llama la atención que Pep coloca al brasileño Gabriel Jesús como 9. Es interesante porque es el único jugador de área que tiene el equipo, pero ya sabemos que con Guardiola ha tenido que aprender a entrar y salir del área, y ha ganado movilidad. Así que el carioca sabrá jugar al puro estilo inglés si se le da la oportunidad, y también podrá entrar y salir del área para dar paso al frente del arco a jugadores como Foden que encaran bien. Buena estrategia.
En cuanto al Liverpool también no hay sorpresas. Portería y línea defensiva estelares. Quizás en el mediocampo pueden parecer Thiago Alcántara como el menos habitual, y no por su calidad, sino por sus semanas en la enfermería. Hombres como Keita y Luis Díaz fueron titulares entre semana en Europa. El Manchester City marcó a los 5 minutos, con un saque rápido, con viveza (digno del Barcelona de Pep) y tras un desvío de uno de los rojos terminó en el fondo de la red. Quizás no sea lo más habitual, pero cosas así se verían en los ciudadano. ¿Un equipo de Pep lanzando balonazos? Eso sí es extraño. Por supuesto, esos "balonazos" eran en realidad pases bien dirigidos, pero pases largos al fin. De momento, conservar el balón no era prioridad, sino las corridas al arco de Alisson. Lo que sí conservaron fue la presión para recuperar el balón una vez que se perdía.
En cuanto al Liverpool, logró batir el arco rival gracias a una jugada colectiva. No se mostraron dependiente de la genialidad de una de las grandes estrellas del momento, Mohamed Salah. Lograron traspasar las líneas con pases inesperados, ya que lograban llevar el balón a un lugar inesperado por el rival, bien sea por la lógica o por el movimiento del cuerpo del jugador. El Liverpool sabe jugar al contraataque, y también manejar el balón. Sus constantes cambios de bandas y balones largos fueron la recurrente.

Gabriel Jesús logró el segundo gol y nos fuimos al descanso.

El balón ya tenía mejor manejo, pasando por Thiago Alcántara y Henderson. Había mejor control y pases con sentido. Y en esos primeros 7 minutos de la segunda mitad el visitante logró un 78% de posesión de balón.
Llegó un cambio esperado: sale Diogo Jota y entra el colombiano Luís Díaz. Ahora habría aún más velocidad en el extremo izquierdo, haciendo que Mané se centralizara en el ataque. Pero parece que pronto se dio cuenta Klopp que en ese centro necesitaba a alguien más fresco, por lo que más tarde Mané fue sustituido por Firmino. Guardiola sólo usó dos cambios: Mahrez por Sterling y Grealish por Gabriel Jesús. Practicamente no afectó nada ni el dibujo ni la idea de juego que habían montado para ésa tarde. El marcador no se volvió a mover, y quedó el mismo resultado del partido de ida de ésta campaña. Definitivamente, los primeros quince minutos de juego, porque pudimos ver el público muy emocionado y los jugadores tratando de resolver rápido el partido. En casa también lo vivimos así. Y desde allí se vio un aspecto sobresaliente del City: su buen entendimiento y ejecución de la idea de su técnico. El planteamiento era claro: los balones cruzados a espaldas de Alexander Arnold y Robertson, quienes suelen ir al ataque y olvidar un poco sus labores ofensivas. Los extremos locales siempre estuvieron atentos a salir corriendo a buscar ese balón al espacio, haciendo notar que Van Dijk era más lento. Era impresionante ver al City haciendo esto en lo cual no está habituado.
Por parte del Liverpool sabía esperar pacientemente. Al único que se le vio un poco la frustración fua a Robertson. Sin embargo, aguardó su oportunidad y no perdonó. La presión era alta, sabía que sus centrales tocarían el balón, pero trataban de cerrar los posibles pases.Estuvo muy inteligente ambos planteamientos.
Definitely the first fifteen minutes of the game, because we could see the crowd very excited and the players trying to solve the game quickly. At home we also experienced it like that. And from there we saw an outstanding aspect of City: their good understanding and execution of their coach's idea. The approach was clear: cross balls behind the backs of Alexander Arnold and Robertson, who usually go forward and forget a bit about their offensive duties. The home wingers were always alert to run out for that ball into space, noting that Van Dijk was slower. It was impressive to see City doing what they are not used to.
Liverpool knew how to wait patiently. The only one who showed a little frustration was Robertson. However, he waited for his chance and did not forgive. The pressure was high, they knew that their center backs would touch the ball, but they tried to close down the possible passes, and both approaches were very intelligent.

1. GABRIEL JESÚS (Manchester Cityl). Jugó como 9 puro, como extremo, bajó a buscar el balón. Estuvo muy activo y logró anotar. Siguió buscando oportunidades y no tuvo problemas ni queja cuando fue sustituido. Nota máxima para el brasileño.
2. ROBERTSON (Liverpool). Exhibió pases cruzados de primera, y aunque pudo gestionar mejor sus emociones, logró seguir haciendo su trabajo en la banda izquierda, recibiendo lo que venía de la banda contraria y siendo también peligroso. Una buena jornada para él.
3. KEVIN DE BRUYNE (Manchester City). Manejó lo hilos de los locales. Con visión lograba distribuir el juego pero también encarar al gol. Logró faltas clave en el mediocampo que le dieron oportunidades para generar peligro. Y bueno, logró abrir el marcador.

Tendremos que seguir esperando para ver cual de los dos finalmente se impone en ésta temporada. El no haber un ganador en éste partido hace que los próximos partidos para ambos, todos y cada uno, ahora sean una final. Esperabamos un final diferente, pero estos dos han cambiado el curso de la historia y nos llevarán emociones hasta el final en la mejor liga del mundo. ¡Disfrutemos el futbol!

El City va viento en popa para ganar otra liga más, y honestamente, hasta ahora creo que lo merecen. En este partido me parece que fueron un poco mejor que el Liverpool, y perfectamente pudieron haber ganado.
Comparto tu opinión. Aplaudo mucho la forma en que ejecutaron su juego. Era impresionante ver cómo su delantera se paraba al lado de los defensas rojos como un carro de formula uno esperando marcar el pase al espacio para correr tras el balón. El Manchester City no juega a eso, no es porque no puedan, porque tienen jugadores para hacerlo, sino por la idea del técnico, que los pone a jugar de una forma específica. Pero hoy decidieron ejecutarlo así y le dio resultado. Quedan unas últimas fechas bien interesantes. Saludos @dedicatedguy
Un partido más qué interesante, básicamente una final en cada partido por coronarse campeón a final de temporada, la ventaja del City es que además del punto por encima al Liverpool, los de Pep tienen un calendario que en el papel es más accesible.
Ciertamente. Aún al Liverpool le quedan unos huesos duros de roer.
Te confieso que ayer a mediodía tenía sueño cuando me senté a ver el partido, pero la intensidad con que se jugó impidió que me quedara dormido. Muy entretenido.
