El UFC Fight Night de Orlando, tenía muy pocos reflectores, no se habló mucho en la previa de este evento, pero termino siendo una gran noche, llena de muchos combates de gran nivel y con finalizaciones sorprendentes. La cartelera estelar, tenía como última batalla, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson vs. Kevin Holland, pelea que prometía guerra y fue absolutamente dominada por el veterano. Los que pensaban en un nocaut para Stephen, rotundamente se equivocaron, todavía hay oxígeno en el tanque y queda mucha calidad para este buen peleador.
The UFC Fight Night in Orlando, had very few spotlights, not much was said in advance of this event, but ended up being a great night, full of many high-level fights and surprising finishes. Holland ha recibido un freno instantáneo, pensó que iba a ganar de una manera sencilla, tener a un peleador de 39 años de edad, quizás lo hizo pensar un poco mal, esperaba un hombre en caída y recibió a un peleador que lo supero en absolutamente todo.
Kevin Holland was coming off a loss last September 10, when he faced Khamzat Chimaev, a fight that could be lost, because of all the circumstances that occurred in that UFC279 event. Putting aside this event, Kevin Holland had 2 very solid wins, this man possesses great power in his right hand and a knockout was expected from him against Wonderboy. Holland has received an instant stoppage, he thought he was going to win in an easy fashion, having a 39 year old fighter perhaps made him think a bit wrong, he expected a man on the decline and received a fighter who outclassed him in absolutely everything.
Stephen Thompson, desde un comienzo, comenzó a mostrar detalles de lo que venía a realizar, no estaba siendo nada paciente, llevo la iniciativa del ataque presionando, lanzando combinaciones de patadas y muchos golpes rápidos con ambas manos. Quede sorprendido, no tenía en mente el gran desempeño del Wonderboy, incluso pensé que sería una noche para el retiro y termino callando muchas bocas.

En 2 ocasiones pudo ganar la posición abajo y comenzar a conectar golpes con ground and pound, lo cual fuera dejado en malas condiciones a Thompson.
El propio Kevin Holland coloco un tweet que confirma mi pensamiento, simplemente dijo: "Por mi gente". Claramente, estaba en busca de entretenimiento, lo cual logro conseguir, ha sido nombrada la pelea de la noche, pero también se ha ido con una derrota en su registro y nuevamente Kevin Holland retrocede en su carrera. Cuando hablamos de inconsistencia, tenemos que nombrar a Holland, peleador que obtiene rachas de victorias y luego termina cayendo nuevamente. Creí que había llegado su momento, Wonderboy está ubicado 6to en el ranking, oportunidad para seguir escalando y otra vez se choca contra una pared.

Cuando llegamos al 4to round del combate, no quería seguir viendo la pelea, Stephen Thompson estaba masacrando a Kevin Holland, hombre que no se estaba defendiendo, todas las patadas aterrizaban con cierta facilidad y el jab con la derecha también entraba en el rostro de Holland. Por suerte, la esquina de Kevin Holland decidió detener la pelea, no saldría para el 5to round y Wonderboy se llevaría la victoria mediante un TKO. Kevin Holland se fracturó la mano derecha, se dice que a mediados del 3er round y por ello no lanzaba golpes.
Comprendo que se halla fractura la mano, detener tantas patadas es complicado, Stephen Thompson fue quien lo lesiono, el veterano con su estilo de karate, sigue dando de que hablar y sin dudas ha sido de las mejores performances de toda su carrera. ¿Qué sigue para Kevin Holland? Tendrán que buscar un rival del top 10 hacia arriba, retroceder nuevamente y tratar de conseguir la victoria. Son 30 años para Holland, todavía tiene mucho tiempo, además es una persona que está en actividad, pelea, en promedio, unas 3-4 veces por año y eso lo puede ayudar a subir rápido otra vez.
Estuve viendo por las redes un llamado hacia Jorge Masvidal, los fanáticos y peleadores del UFC, desean que luche contra Stephen Thompson y me gustaría verlos en acción. Ambos son strikers, Wonderboy no tendría problemas en aceptar dicho combate, aunque no sabemos si a Jorge Masvidal le interesa pelear contra el veterano y este en busca de otro rival. Toca esperar, lo cierto es que existe una roca para llegar al top 5 y se llama Stephen Thompson. Todo striker que quiera avanzar, primero tendrá que superar este obstáculo y con el nivel mostrado ante Holland, ha enviado un mensaje rotundo, no está fácil vencerlo. ¡Felicidades para el Wonderboy Thompson! When we got to the 4th round of the fight, I didn't want to continue watching the fight, Stephen Thompson was slaughtering Kevin Holland, man he wasn't defending himself, all the kicks were landing with some ease and the right jab was also going into Holland's face. Holland sabe que no será campeón en UFC, por eso está dedicado al entretenimiento, es bueno arriba pero en grappling no tiene nada, eso le puso un freno a sus aspiraciones, hoy en día no lo veo intentando subir sino conseguir buenas peleas y ganar dinero.
Para Wonderboy es lamentable que tampoco será campeón, tuvo sus oportunidades pero no lo pudo conseguir , quizás este año que viene veamos su retiro, y en cuanto a una pelea con Masvidal no creo que este último acceda, ya perdió una vez contra el, así que no creo se exponga, quizás busque seguir avanzando aunque tampoco le veo posibilidades para levantar el título algún día.
Lamentablemente es así, Kevin Holland tampoco tiene mentalidad de querer ser campeón, ya ganó buen billete contra Chimaev y por lo visto seguirá peleando por ello nada más.
Wonderboy tuvo 2 chances de ser campeón, triste que no lo pudo conseguir, ahora está para medir a rivales promesas. Yo pensaba que está sería su derrota para el retiro, pero demostró que aún tiene con que, vamos a ver contra quién va este próximo año.
Tampoco veo lo de Masvidal factible, pero sería hermoso, una bonita pelea de volver a ver.
