Cleaning Out Boulders

in DIYHub3 years ago

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Recently we've taken the task on for cleaning up the lake house area walking path, getting rid of the massive rocks and cinder blocks! It was great to do all the work ourselves instead of paying someone to do it for us. I'm all for that type of stuff!

Junk Removal

The lake house has been a key component of our life for many reasons. It gets in the outdoors even when people are being confined to their places, because our family owns it! Can't stop us from going where we have ownership, so that's awesome. With the lake house, we've had a lot of things to work on as far as cleaning it up. I've found many of the things were a lot of fun for the little man and I to do, with the wife helping out here and there.

This is the latest edition of cleaning up the junk to make it a nicer, safer place! The path down to the lake has been pock marked with all kinds of big rocks and stuff so we knew we needed to improve that in order to have more friends and family come visit us. We have some people that are a bit older and nervous walking so we wanted to eliminate the hazards as much as we can. As you can see below, we have a mishmash of big blocks all over the place!

One of the great things to see is that some of the biggest blocks weren't connected the way I was thinking they were. That made it a significant amount easier! It was still difficult to dig them out completely, but it was a lot of fun to get in the yard, in the sun and get down to business.

What I've found all over the place, which is very disappointing, is a significant amount of old glass bottles all over the place. These were buried into the cinder blocks so I actually broke one pointing my mattock pick into it so that sucked. We are throwing out as much debris and glass as we can, we want a nice safe environment for us to enjoy without having to worry about getting all sliced up!

It was great to see everything taken out! What really helped save a lot of space and dirt was to reuse and bury some of the debris from around like a lot of the leaves, deadfall and stuff.

We used the deadfall and junk, including small rocks and stuff from this area. This was a breeding ground for all kinds of stuff so it was really great to clean it out and reuse it instead of having to put it in trash bags to toss it out. I think we are going to use more of the deadfall from another area of the property to fill in more holes!

The little man also was stoked to use his wheelbarrow to help out! He was digging all kinds of dirt and stuff, which is right up his alley. He used his wheelbarrow to fill up dirt and move the stuff down to another area that I asked him to. He was more than happy to oblige!

The area got nice and smooth once we finished with those two massive blocks! Looking a whole lot safer and nicer with the stuff gone and filled up with the leaves and stuff. Smoothing it out was some good work done here!

One of the cool things I was thinking of doing was to use the giant blocks to give the little fish some space to hang out! Under the dock was a great spot since the fish like to hang out there and it's good to give them a spot to escape the bigger fish. Hopefully this will then lead to more fish coming around and we can fish right off the beach near the dock and catch some good ones!

The quantity of cinder blocks that were buried in the dirt was incredibly surprising hahaha I was shocked how many there were! Thankfully I was able to get all of them out, stick them under the dock instead of trying to drag them up. I'm thinking the ones closer to the beach on the right here I will put a lot of water in them in the winter so it freezes, expands and breaks them apart. Those things were heavy as shit!

Man that looks absolutely beautiful and congratulations on getting through all that wonderful effort.

Sometimes you got to clean things up.

Thanks man, it's a lot of fun to do the work. We live in a condo so we don't have any work to do. I love to do this type of stuff and putter around but there's not a lot of it to be done so thankfully we've taken the task of maintaining the lake property for my wife’s uncle. Let me find an old picture of how much of a mess this place was!

Wow! you definitely did quite a job cleaning up!!!

This was what it looked like from the parking area all the way down to the waters edge. About 45 feet.

This looks mint, also manual labour when its for you, love it - that Jetty is awesome good to see littleman using his skills and tools too, we'd love a project like this perfect for filming and we could start collecting water crafts 😁 :)
