Hello, how are you? I was browsing the internet for reference and saw this Sunflower that caught my eye. It is pretty well known that's the one I am going to draw, and it is kinda sad to look at it. Still, at the same time, I saw myself in that sunflower, which is weird, and I pretty much grabbed my materials and drew it instantly, and I like how minimalist it looks, and this one I focus only on the subject and the subject only.
Materials I Used:
- Paper
- Oil Pastels
- Tissue
- Tape
Drawing Time!
Because the paper I use is thin, I decided to tape it around in a thick chipboard, to make it easier to draw and to pretty steady when drawing on it.
Drew the line art by freehand using brown shade color. It does not have to be perfect, and just enough to have a line art as a reference, and don't worry about the line art's color, it will disappear the moment I layer it.
I lightly layer it with a base color as lightly as I can so that I can easily blend it when I layer it again.
I started adding more layers to the petals first and then the middle part of it because I have a limited number of colors of my Crayola oil pastels. I decided to do the technique I saw online to darken or make the color not look muddy. Make sure to use the complementary color of that color I am using, so that what I did and it worked, and the part got darker.
I did the same technique on the other part of the sunflower, and I just trust the process at this moment. On the reference, the other part of the sunflower is pretty much dried, so that is why I colored it like that.
For this part, I added more shadow to make it dimensional, and some highlights at the same time. I went out of my comfort zone and added accent colors to the sunflower to make it more interesting to look at.
Finish it with the lightest color I have, and I decided not to add background color at all because I wanted the sunflower to be the only center of all, and I really love it for that. And I hope you like it!
