Repair of a Haier LED TV with a mysterious fault. [Eng+Spa]

Greetings Hive DIY community, it's a pleasure to share a bit of my workshop work with you again. I've been very busy lately, but I've always been on the lookout for a moment to sit down and write.

This time, a 32-inch Haier LED TV arrived at my workshop. This TV had already been inspected at another repair shop and diagnosed with damage to an integrated circuit. The owner, considering the high cost of the suggested repair, preferred to sell it at a low price, which is how the TV ended up in my hands.

I was focused on the repair in my workshop, but then I thought I'd share this repair with you. I would have liked to take many more photos, but I was a bit distracted while working.


When I connected the TV to the test lamp, I could see that the red standby LED lit up, which indicates that at least the power supply is partially functioning.

I started disassembling the TV and immediately noticed that the screws on the plastic covers were tightened to the factory torque. You can tell when the casing screws have never been touched.

This made me suspect that the other repair shop hadn't actually checked this TV at all. After disassembling the casing, I went straight to the most common problem with these LED TVs. I tried to illuminate the screen with an LED tester, but it didn't work.


The LED strips that illuminate the screen are all connected in series, so if even one of the LED strips is faulty, none of the strips will light up.

I continued disassembling the screen until I reached the LED strips. I wanted to remove the cover that held the LEDs, but the problem was that the T-Con board was glued to the plastic cover and the TV screen. It wasn't screwed in, and from experience, I know it's not a good idea to risk detaching it.


In the end, I tested each LED strip. I was very lucky to find that only one LED strip was damaged. This LED strip doesn't have a connector; it was soldered directly to the power cables. The LED strip was screwed in and glued as well. They really made sure it wouldn't come loose, but it seems like a huge overkill.


It's a 23.5-inch linear LED strip. I'll have to check the price at the parts store. Ideally, you should always replace all the LED strips with new ones, or at least replace the LED strip. It's not recommended to repair it unless it's used temporarily while the TV is being completely overhauled.


I tested the LED strip and only found one damaged LED at the opposite end from the wire connection.

While I'm checking for other faults, I'm placing a diode, following the polarity of the power supply.


This way, the LED strip lights up, and I can test the rest of the TV's functionality.


I reassembled the LED strip and checked that all the LED strips lit up without any problems so I could calmly reassemble the TV and run the tests.


The boss was exhausted from the work; he's been very busy.


As I expected, the TV worked perfectly. I'm going to finish assembling it and test it for a few hours.


I usually test the equipment for about two days before giving it the go-ahead; it's always best to be sure.

The TV arrived at the workshop with its stand, which makes it easy to connect it to the computer without having to improvise. It would have been great if they had also left the remote control; otherwise, I'll have to use another method to access service mode without it.


The other repair shop hadn't even checked the TV and had declared a very expensive problem to fix. It pains me to admit that there are people in this profession who lack any professional ethics and constantly try to take advantage of customers. In the end, customers are very distrustful, and with good reason.

The TV hasn't presented any problems during the days I've been testing it; I just need to get a new LED strip and replace the repaired one.

Saludos comunidad DIY de Hive, es un gusto volver a compartir con ustedes un poco de mi trabajo de taller. Últimamente estuve muy atareado, pero estuve siempre pendiente de encontrar un momento para sentarme a escribir.

En esta ocasión llego a mi taller un TV led de la marca Haier de 32 pulgadas, ese TV led ya venia de otro taller en que lo habían revisado y le habían diagnosticado daños en un circuito integrado, el dueño considerando lo caro de la reparación sugerida prefirió venderlo a un bajo costo, es así como al final ese TV llego a mis manos.

Solo estaba concentrado haciendo la reparación en mi taller, pero luego se me ocurrió compartir esta reparación con ustedes, me habría gustado sacar muchas mas fotos pero estaba un poco distraído trabajando.


Al conectar el TV a la lampara de pruebas pude observar que el led rojo de stand by se iluminaba, eso indica que por lo menos la fuente de alimentacion esta parcialmente funcionando.

Comencé a desarmar el TV y de inmediato note que los tornillos de las cubiertas plástica estaban colocados con el torque de fabrica, se nota cuando los tornillos de la carcasa no han sido tocados nunca.

Me hizo sospechar de que en realidad en el otro taller no habían revisado en nada a este TV, después de desarmar la carcasa me fui directamente a la falla mas común de estos TV de led, con el probador de led trate de iluminar la pantalla, sin ningún resultado.


Las tiras de led que iluminan la pantalla van todas conectadas en serie, por lo que si tan solo una de las tira de led tiene una falla, ninguna de las tiras de led enciende.

Seguí desarmando la pantalla hasta llegar a las tiras de led, queria retirar la cubierta en que estaban los led, el problema fue que la tarjeta de T-Con estaba pegada a la cubierta plástica y a la pantalla del TV, no estaba atornillada y por experiencia se que no es buena idea arriesgarme a despegarla.


Al final fui probando cada tira de led, fue mucha suerte encontrar de que solo había una sola tira de led dañada, esta tira de led no tiene conector, estaba soldada directo a los cables de alimentacion electrica , la tira de led estaba atornillada y estaba pegada también, en verdad se aseguraron que no se soltara de ninguna manera, pero me parece muy exagerado de verdad.


Es una tira de led lineal de 23 ½ pulgadas de largo, después debo buscar el precio en la tienda de repuestos, lo ideal es siempre cambiar todas las tiras de led por una tiras de led nuevas o por lo menos reemplazar la tira de led, no se recomienda repararla a menos que se use temporalmente mientras se este haciendo la revisión completa del TV.


Fui probando la tira de led y solo encontré que había un solo led dañado al extremo opuesto a la conexión de los cables, mientras pruebo si no hay mas fallas coloco un diodo siguiendo la polaridad de la alimentación eléctrica.


Así la tira de led enciende y puedo probar el resto del funcionamiento del TV.


Volví a montar la tira de led, comprobé que encendieran todas las tiras de led sin problemas para poder armar tranquilo todo el TV y hacer las pruebas.


El jefe se quedo rendido sobre el trabajo, ha estado muy ocupado.


Como imaginaba, el TV funciono sin novedad, lo voy a terminar de armar y probar por unas horas.


Suelo probar los equipos durante unos dos días antes de dar el visto bueno, es mejor ir siempre seguro.

El TV llego al taller con su soporte, lo que me facilita colocarlo en el computador sin tener que estar improvisando, lo que seria genial es que también me hubiesen dejado el control remoto, luego voy a tener que seguir otro método para entrar al modo de servicio sin control remoto.


El otro taller no había revisado el TV y había declarado una falla muy cara de reparar, me duele reconocer que hay personas en esta profesión que no tienen ningún tipo de ética profesional y constantemente tratan de abusar del cliente, al final los clientes son muy desconfiados y con buenos motivos.

El TV no ha presentado ningún problema los días en que lo he estado probando, solo me queda conseguir una tira de led nueva y cambiar la tira de led reparada.

¿Entonces toda la falla era solamente un LED?
Ese otro taller, donde diagnosticaron una falla mucho más complicada, estaba tratando de estafar al cliente, por lo que se ve.

Es triste pero es algo que suelo encontrar con frecuencia. Es mejor hacer las cosas bien, que actuar con malicia termina siempre mal.
