This is the 10th issue of Turni. When we started this effort, it was just an idea for a few of us. We had no clue if it will gain any traction, or if we will be interested in publishing Turni for any meaningful length of time. The concept was a digital 'little magazine', which I have some experience in publishing before, in the physical form. If my memory serves me right, they don't last very long. People get busy, and the initial enthusiasm dies rapidly. It is not that there is a lack of content, but the difficult fact is a point person who pesters people for pieces of the Magazine and burns the nightly candles to put everything together. In this case, there are two individuals, the head clerk, and the good doctor. Without these two, we wouldn't be in the 10th week. Also, there are many other contributors, including the artist (s), yes, it's a plural, without them, this would be just words. And of course, contributors who write every week, you are the one who makes Turni possible.

That begs the question why we do it. I will try to be honest here. We do it for ourselves, and we do it for you, the community. To me, the outside world is a maze, and when we navigate the world, we also navigate inside us.

"Things outside you are projections of what's inside you, and what's inside you is a projection of what's outside. So when you step into the labyrinth outside you, at the same time you're stepping into the labyrinth inside."….. ― Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore.

I borrow Murakami's words often as they resonate quite easily inside me. I find it naturally as I write. Perhaps I read him too much, perhaps he has written too much, whatever may be the case, I almost always find something that resonate within me on most matters.

Lately, when we talk about the current state of affairs around the world, and someone tells me that I always find positivity in everything. I say thank you, and I say, Yes, that is true. However, it is not something that comes automatically. I have my share of darkness too, but I choose to focus on the light. It is perhaps the Jedi learning that teaches us that there is little difference between the darkness and the light; it is often just our choices that distinguishes between the two. I find it that it is my duty to focus on the light and guide our known universe towards it. It is not that we ignore the darkness, but we choose to light our torch using our simple words, paints, and other medium of art and science. After all, we are human. As an intelligent species, it is our job to rise above our shortcomings and thrive.

Whether we will succeed or not matters least to me, but it is the journey, and it is the engagement during the journey that matters most. I hope you agree with us and lend us a hand. Because together, we can achieve greatness.

I was asked to write a little piece about engagement, something I'm passionate about as it has helped me build my account and have more fun here. I am a pro-engagement user here on hive and encourage everyone to get engaged themselves. Here's a few reasons why.

Every now and then, I look at my blockchain numbers; I do it to get an idea of where my time is being spent and gauge what benefits I receive from the time-investment. In my 1200-plus days on the blockchain, I've written over 1850 posts and made just under 30,500 comments...It has been a lot of work, I'll not lie, however, work is probably the wrong word for it; Fun, is more suitable - I see this as enjoyment, not work.

I enjoy writing about things I'm interested in and passionate about and have never found much difficulty in finding a topic; Writing on the blockchain is relaxing for me and, depending on my mood, quite cathartic also - That's one of the big attractions for me, and there's one critical element that deepens my experience: Engagement with others in the community.

Emotional reward

I realised quickly that simply posting words and pictures isn't enough to build good relationships and, as with real life, it's relationships that help deepen the human experience - It provides added value and reward. No, not necessarily financial reward, emotional reward. However, the financial reward that ensues from relationships here is a natural by-product.

Good content seen by no one is wasted, so getting myself on the radar of other community-members became a focus.

With that in mind, I began to comment to others, and always reply with substance to those who commented on my own posts. Slowly I gained more followers and greater rewards on my posts, but the actual value came through relationships; I worked hard to build and nurture them, and as they developed and deepened, so did my enjoyment and post rewards.

These days I work hard at helping people along with their own journey; This is usually done by encouraging users to engage with others and to comment with relevance, validity, and depth on other people's posts. Waiting for people to come to me wasn't much of an option in the early days, and it's not an option for newer users now. One must reach out to other hivers, and that's done through commenting on their posts, after reading them, of course.

I don't mean comments like good post or nice post which have no real substance though, I mean something a little more interesting; It's all about capturing someone's attention. Do that, and they may visit one's post-feed, and if the there's something interesting there, maybe it results in a follow or an up-vote. It's a much better way than posting and hoping someone sees it. Attraction-based marketing essentially.

It's not rocket science...Offer value to others, and most often, value shall be returned.

Getting engaged with other members of hive isn't difficult; One only needs to go into some Communities, open up a few posts and have a read then comment, and yet so many don't take the time...Then wonder why their own posts don't get much, or any, activity. People complain about low upvote value on their posts but don't take the time to get involved with engagement initiatives preferring to resort to tagging whales or larger accounts in the hope of attracting a vote...In my humble opinion, that's not the way to create a sustainable account here, and you'll be largely ignored.

Furthermore, many choose not to post or comment when the hive-price is low, like now, which I see as a wasted opportunity. To get some posts and comments out there, to get engaged, when there's less content to compete with is an excellent opportunity to get noticed. When the price rises and you have the relationships built, you'll see a greater benefit moving forward.

People will often seek the easy path though, it's just that there isn't really an easy path here on hive. One must put some effort into it; * It's not a get rich quick scheme* and whether you're in it for the long-haul or just to gain a few dollars here and there, engagement with the community is required.

You can't sell a secret

In effect, you're promoting yourself as a product, those who want to build and make bigger rewards I mean, and you will not be able to sell-yourself, your attributes, and value to others if no one knows you're there. That's why I suggest engagement initiatives, commenting, relationship building, and nurturing. It's the best path forward.

I can only speak from personal experience and from what worked for me.

I began on the blockchain with nothing, no financial investment, and just one friend, the person who introduced me to the blockchain. Through commenting, getting engaged with people on their posts my account grew; This was my intention. If a person doesn't want to grow their account, they can sit back passively and do very little, but if one wishes to grow, develop, and build...Engagement with others is required; I simply can't stress that fact enough.

Passion, personality and effort

If you bring these three things to your post-content and out-bound engagement, you'll be well on track to build your brand and account. It isn't too difficult to consider all of the Communities and initiatives on the blockchain. Applying these three things will carry you further than tagging whales and larger accounts, as you will be largely ignored by doing that. Getting involved with the community, getting active is what will carry you forward sustainably. Begging me for a vote on Discord won't get the vote...Spending time engaging with me over time will probably gain you many up-votes provided the three things in the heading above are present.

Why am I passionate about engagement? That's an easy question to answer. It deepens my enjoyment here, brings greater emotional-value to the posts I make through interaction with others, and helps put myself on the radar for those out there also looking for relationships and more rounded experience. It also builds my account a little larger each month, which helps me give a little back to those on the blockchain who deserve it.

We're all in this together, and if we all pulled in the same direction at the same time, the entire hive-community would be a more fantastic place.

Get engaged.

To understand what montage is, let us consider the image below.

source

What do you see? A graveyard. There's fog, so it's likely to be morning. Apart from that, there's not much else going on.

Now consider the photo on the right. A woman is crying in the photo. Which suggests she is sad for some reason. We don't have any idea of the nature of her discomfort, however.

And lastly, this photo of a flower bouquet. A bunch of flowers on a vase. This photo tells way too little to make any remarkable impression, even though the image might be pleasing to the eye.

Now consider these photos together—first, the grave one. Then the flower one and lastly the sobbing woman. If you play these frames one after another, it gives us a story. That the woman is grieving, someone dear to her has parted, and she's about to place the flowers on the grave.

None of the photos are in the same shot. They are entirely separate yet, juxtaposed together; they make much more sense than they mean separately. This is called montage in the language of cinema.

Today every form of media, everything on Tv or Netflix you consume often uses montage as it is one of the oldest techniques that has been used for nearly a century now. Some will use it intuitively because that's how they saw the films and tv when they were growing up. But it wasn't always so. The classic way of filmmaking usually didn't have montages.

Soviet film giant and one of the most influential film theorists, Sergei M. Eisenstein, is the montage technique pioneer. In his book Film Sense he writes, "montage is an idea that arises from the collision of independent shots". And montage is not only placing shots together, unlike what they are doing now, to make meaningful montages, there also have to be substantial thoughts behind each shot. What they mean separately and what they mean juxtaposed.

But montage is not one shot at ruling them all. Film theorist Andre Bazin entertained that montage cannot be used when a direct action has to occur. Superhero and franchise films today do not adhere to this rule. So I chuckle when Scorsese calls them 'not cinema.'

Today's Turni called for something unique. I was at a loss. I hope this has been special enough.

Innovation. We talk about innovation all the time. Whether in business, health sector, science, tech, every industry needs design to move forward.

Why not keep doing what is working, why try to fix something that is not broken?

Because what is working at the moment will longer be enough as time progresses and other people come in with newer ideas, implementing them. The world is dynamic, and every sector is continually changing. Innovation is the way to keep up with the game in every industry.

The crypto-sphere is no different. Innovation drives a project forward. While it is true that in almost all the crypto projects out there, innovation and development lie in the developers' hands. The investors, day-to-day users do not really have a first-hand effect on innovation. For better, or worse, that is not the case with HIVE. While we still rely on the developers to drive the technical aspect of the chain forward, every user, EVERY single user, has a potential opportunity to innovate on the chain and improve the experience of fellow HIVEians.

And that is what we are trying to do here with 𝕿𝖚𝖗𝖓𝖎. Innovate. Do something that has never been done before on the blockchain, at least not to the extent we're trying to reach. And just in the blink of an eye, today, we bring you the 10th edition.

I am privileged to be one of the "core team" if you may. Not because I get to say in a deep Christian Bale voice "Oh I am an editor at turni," or "I am batman."

No. I am privileged to work with the team I get to. I am sure I wouldn't have wanted it any other way, and I know for a fact that when I say this, I speak for the rest of "team."

But Turni is not just "Us," the editors. Turni is all of you. Turni may be the brainchild of the BDCommunity, but it is far from being confined just to us. Look at all the different contributors from all the diverse communities we're trying to bring in.

All of you who have contributed with writings, paintings, ideas, you are all Turni. All our Curators and Ambassadors who picked up our slack and carried on curating, commenting while we stayed busy with publishing, you are all Turni. Our moderators, supporters, who encouraged us to do whatever we felt were the right thing to do and supported every step we took, you are ALL Turni.

WE are Turni.

This is a special edition for all of us. I don't know how deep we will burn the candle tonight, but I know it will be worth it!

People have different sorts of addictions in their life. Some of them are mind-bending, while some are mind boggling. In this region of my city, a majority of people have an addiction in common. Not that it is harmful to others, but in general, it is pretty standard on this side of the country. I am talking about the addiction of CHAI, aka Tea. There are a variety of Tea flavors available out here and let me show a different type of TEA, which I could explore a couple of days back.

A few days back, a chai wala has been getting famous among the locality of mine. As surprising as it sounds, it is ah hyped topic nowadays. With that much hype, I needed to see what it actually was! It would be like the situation of killing two birds with one stone. Get to enjoy a new type of TEA and also show you all what it actually is. The main attraction, which it was getting was the way the Tea was served. It was being served in a clay pot. Yeah, little out of the line, and this has been attracting people a lot. Something unique and to experience it, people were visiting this place and believe it or not, there was a long queue just to have a cup of these.

Image 010 59.jpg

I guess the perception of taking something to the peak from a normal position can be considered as an art. The people behind it used that in their favor; thus, their business was a hit. Even though it was not the ordinary Tea but with a little variation in making this Tea made it kind of intimidating. If you are not aware of this MALAY tea, do a lookup on Youtube, and you will see a slight change in the process, and I must say, I had Malay cha before, but this was something different. I liked its taste because it had something to do with the clay pot or the person who was making it added something extra to it ;) FYI, I never really had Tea in a clay pot before. So it was a little different experience for me as well.

Image 010 60.jpg

It is basically a food cart, where they only serve this tea. The price is also less than 15 Cents. The amount of hype it created over the last few days, it was indeed extraordinary! I am quite surprised as they could pull off something like this, with such a product. Even their way of being productive was also pretty much nice, and they were in order as well. Which is good! If I ever get the chance, I would definitely take a peek out in their shop for another sip of this Tea :)

He looked afar. He could not see the land. The sea seemed to stretch out endlessly. The waves seemed timid beside the tumultuous thoughts that raged his mind. His mind took him back to his school days when he had lived in a small shed and his family, which consisted of his father, mother, grandmother, siblings, and then the newly wedded wife of his father. He had seen the pain on his mother's face. No other pain in the world seemed so intense.

The life back then had made him want to escape the situation, but he knew that if he ran away, his mother would give up on herself. His smile made her hold on to life. He was her only hope even when she had to wash her husband's new wife's dishes. She held on to her hope and goaded him to think out of the box.

The textbooks which had seemed dull reflected his mother's hope, and he studied hard. So hard that he topped not only the class but the university as well. His teachers were surprised but understood the passion with which he devoted himself. One of his teachers advised him to join the naval force and continue studying. He ran to the house to tell his mother about it. She was happy to hear about it and made him apply for it. He got through and became a successful naval officer.

He remembered the day he went to his house in his brand new uniform. There she was, as usual washing the clothes of others. She looked pale, but she had a gleam of hope in her eyes as if expecting her son to arrive at any moment. He ran forward and picked her up and sobbed. She was surprised at first but cried along with him, not even knowing the reason. She was laughing too, at the same time, seeing the uniform. She even smelled the uniform. The new clothes, the new look. All that made her laugh hysterically, but he calmed her down. They did not wait to see if anyone called them back. He led her to his car and drove away.

We have soooo much!!

Instructions to Get Featured

This here is our piece de resistance. To promote engagement and a little self-branding, we have come up with an initiative that we simply called Featured. And we are very excited about this portion of the Magazine.

Every week, one talented author will have the opportunity to contribute a piece for the Magazine, while showcasing one of their best posts. The willing writers will have a chance to add a few words about any topic that they choose and be a 25% beneficiary of the Magazine.

How to Get Featured

The first step is, you have to decide whether you want to get featured or not. Once you've made up your mind, you have to apply by submitting one of your articles from last week. We have a wiggle room for quality content if they are older than seven days. Choose the piece you deem to be your best work for the week, as this will play a significant role in you getting featured or not.

Application Window

There will be a two-day period to submit your application. It must be submitted by dropping a link to your post in the #Featured-Magazine channel on the BDCommunity Discord Server. One author will be chosen randomly from all the submissions. The featured author for the week will be announced during the weekly voice meeting. They will then have two days for writing a piece and submit.

The author who gets featured in the weekly Magazine will be set as a 25% beneficiary, meaning 25% of the Magazine's liquid payout will go to the featured author.

Do not forget to join our next weekly hangout at Friday 10 PM GMT +6

Seems like the theme was collage this time around. This is exceptional as always. Well done everyone on the 10th issue. Wonderful to see my friend @galenkp here. Galen has always been at the forefront of engagement. He puts everyone to shame by commenting on 500+ posts each week! And these are not one sentence comments! I always give Galen's example on how to engage with different people and build trust and friendship. We are grateful to have people like Galen in hive.

Rest of them are mostly return contributors, and they are all exceptional. I wish I have a Malai Chai right now, its already been a long week. Oh, Damn! It's only Monday!!

I wish I am "Batman" like the good doctor!

Thanks for your kind words @azircon, I am all in on hive, my only social media so the engagement is twofold: For the enjoyment of it, and I do enjoy it, and to build my small account a little bigger each month.

Cheers! You certainly have the right idea. I hope more people follow your footsteps and then I am sure we will succeed together.

Yeah, I hope. That's why I started the #weekend-engagement topic...To promote engagement and to show people the importance of it. It seems to be getting some support and I hope those that get involved are keeping the engagement momentum rolling all week.

Yeah #weekend-engagement is incredibly popular now. Lots of people are talking about it! Sakib here, doc... I think they are frequent there.

Believe it or not, cooking dinner. Normally don’t do it during weekdays. But I should do it more often. Very relaxing.

I'm pleased it's getting a little traction and I know that quote a few have made some really good connections with others through it. That's the whole point.

A bit of cooking, Masterchef style?

Nah... just regular Monday night dinner man! We normally cook enough over the weekend so during the week, there is no major cooking involved. Maybe just something for the kids only.

Today came back home early and got some Alu Matar done, North Indian style ;) Also made some Paratha.. that’s all. Nothing big. Common food, I am sure you get them down under as well ;)

Nice to see @galenkp as featured author.

I began on the blockchain with nothing, no financial investment, and just one friend

Yes, these are some great advices newbies can follow to grow their account. Also, it could be beneficial for the old users who are not much active here.

Whether we will succeed or not matters least to me, but it is the journey, and it is the engagement during the journey that matters most.

Yesterday I was commenting to one of my Hive guardians about people engagement and rewards. As you mentioned, if people consider Hive rewards as by-product of mental satisfaction, then this platform will definitely grow further. To make it happen, either we have to make new friends or bring our near and dear ones in this platform. Then only we will feel comfortable to spend more times here.

Whether we will succeed or not matters least to me, but it is the journey, and it is the engagement during the journey that matters most.

Finally, I would like to agree with the words of the editor and it has been proven once again that this weekly magazine ‘Turni’ is contributing on engagement between users. I should say this is the beginning. Today is only 10, we want to see the edition number 100 which is not impossible. Together we will do it.

Hi @deepu7, thanks for taking the time to comment on the Weekly Turni and my small inclusion in particular. I've always held to the belief that personal reward through enjoyment should come before the expectation of financial reward here - Of one can make that mindset-shift, then the platform becomes an absolute joy to be on and engagement a gift. If it's about the financial reward first, well, I fear people will leave dissatisfied.

Keep up the great work.

!ENGAGE 50

You are correct bro. If we together can change the mindset, this platform will be a enjoyable place for all.

I am glad to see you here @galenkp amd shared you valuable words with us. What you shared with us will be very much inspirational for many of us to build a good relationship with other hivers. Last week our editor also focused on engagement and written for us. Now i see you here and got a broad description which is too much helpful to get into the importance of engagement properly.

Good content seen by no one is wasted.

Yeah its the bitter truth that sometimes we do good post and expect for a pleasant response but due to lack of engagement no one even sees it and it breaks our heart. I have felt that a lot time and now i am getting the reason behind it and working to get over it.

At last i wanna say thank you for sharing your valuable thoughts with us and the directions you have given to make the hive communities more fantastic place.

@rehan12 bhai you wont believe how much delighted i am on seeing the tea portion you wrote. I have started reading the turni with tea and i found the malay tea portion while reading. Hahaha. Coincidence. Though i am not having the malay one now. But i do remember a great tea i have had in mirpur sector-2 at "Abesh". That will be remember to me always. I would like to say " চা ছাড়া আমার চলেই নাহ"

In the end, i wanna say all the portions was amazing to read, In a place like turni its like a dish full of appealing foods for us. Lets grab as per our desires.

Thanks for commenting. Engagement is a key focus of mine and has been one of the main reasons my account has grown. I enjoy it too, so I continue to engage with people to broaden my experience here on hive.

I like your comment here, in response to the Weekly Turni, and I hope you continue to engage and get involved with the hive community.

!ENGAGE 50

yeah sure, Recently in our bdcommunity they have been encouraging us to get engaged with one another for making the hive a better place.

Thank you for your appreciation, i will surely follow these and make a good tie with my fellow hivers.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

" চা ছাড়া আমার চলেই নাহ"

Kinda same here :) I am as well more of a TEA person than of coffee! Besides, I hope you enjoyed your tea time while going through the TURNI!

Yeah bhai, Enjoyed that time.

Thank you @galenkp champ, for making our little magazines tenth issue so special!:) i feel so proud today that our tiny effort has taken this beauuuutiful form!!

I was never a team player! And I never knew what engagement truly meant, both virtually and in reality. But a special few people like galen and @azircon dada has taught me so much about all this that, sometimes I think of where I couldve been if i had "this" while growing up! I know the road ahead is harsh and cruel, still, I dare to hope! What I have learned and acquired throughout the past few months has changed me, changed us all for the better! And its something I do and will cherish forever!

Turni is a team effort! And standing in the middle, dada is the one who is keeping it all anchored and tidy! Mentoring us about how to pinpoint ones potential, primordial drives, and channel it towards doing good! And that is a feat can only be pulled off by an inherently good and kind soul! And I know for a fact that the "bad" good doctor, @simplifylife will second me on this:))

It has been my pleasure to be a small part of the tenth issue of the Weekly Turni and to speak about engagement a little. I'm also pleased you have seen the benefit of engagement here on hive - It's never to late too deploy it, there's no time like the present.

I like what y'all are doing with the BD Community and the Turni and being involved has been fun; Thanks for asking me to get involved.

It has been an absolute pleasure to have the king of engagement shed some insight into what engagement really is all about. We have been brainstorming constantly to promote healthy engagement in our community and I certainly hope you have ignited our readers to pick something up from your piece, and get into the idea of engagement!

I know this has already been said multiple times, but thanks for taking time out of your schedule for Turni!

IKR!! Its such a pleasure now to look at the magazine.. At first I was damn skeptic about how this all would turn out! And now im astonished:pp

Yeah, this week all the pieces, the outlook, it all seemed to come together so well! I can see it look outstanding if this was a printed magazine.

It's never to late too deploy it, there's no time like the present.

Exactly! And thank you for that! There is a saying in urdu- "Der aye per durust aye!" It means come late but come strong (no pun intended):p

Oh I absolutely would, 100%.

You can have an average team and an extraordinary captain can take that team to achieve greatness. We have seen that in '86, we have seen that in '96. Dada is like our captain extraordinaire!

And the reverse goes too. You could have an extraordinary team, but without someone to lead the way, everything falls apart very soon. So I think I'm not exaggerating when I say we've been dealt a great combination, and everything has clicked!

So I think I'm not exaggerating when I say we've been dealt a great combination, and everything has clicked!

Its such a fascinating thing to see that one idea and a few dedicated individuals if comes together can do so many things!! For better or worse!

It is! And also the fact that we enjoy doing what we do helps!

That font tho!!🍻🍻

Hehehe! Unfortunately, that generated as an image instead of text :/

When I look top to bottom, I can feel that I am in my dream. The editorial part is extraordinary as always, then the feature part, which is beyond something, thanks mate @galenkp, for your beautiful words about engagement. He knows the power of engagement & we all should learn from you. Then the cinema guy already knew about his charisma. I love the Dakter Bhai piece & Rehan Bhai piece. Then come the goose bum Deepu Bhai you are too good; I heard your poetry recitation maybe 4 or 5 times, Thanks Bhai. What can I say about Sayee? She is one of my favorite writers. Nice to see how Minhaj is transforming himself to be a better writer.

It's all about the support and appreciations you guys are showing which keeps me on the track and lets me move forward.

This week's magazine is really extraordinary as it was meant to be.While reading from top to bottom i was also in a paradise.

You are on the right path, just keep going. Consistency is very important in our life.
