[Last Bell of Montezuma]- The imperceptible mother (অদৃশ্য মা)

in BDCommunity4 years ago (edited)

Looking at the room, it would not seem that it is the chamber of the best psychiatrist in the country. A sixties old model sofa on one side of the room. It appears that the walls have not been decorated for several years as the colours are already faded. A fan rumbles in a gentle motion over the head. The old ceiling is reasonably high and the fan is lowered with a long rod. On the right wall hangs a human skeleton with a layer of dust on it. When someone will see this human skeleton, he would giggle instead of fear. This is Mr. Subhan’s chamber in his own house which is a two-storey edifice on English Road in Old Dhaka.

Raatri is gazing at Mr. Subhan with great excitement. The first reason for her enthusiasm is that she has come to a destination where ordinary people are skeptical to pronounce name of this place. She saw several harlots on both sides of the alley crossing the house to attract men in sexual postures. And the second reason she was having fun because Mr. Subhan’s clean bald head was looking like a mirror and she could see the ceiling fan was coming down from the roof and spinning in Mr. Subhan's bald head.

Mr. Subhan has finished two cigarette in the last 15 minutes. He put another cigarette to his lips through his white mustache and looked at Raatri through heavy glasses.

—How are you Raatri?

Raatri, who was immediately called by name, was a little stunned at first but managed herself. She had a book in her hand where her name was depicted in reverse. Mr. psychiatrist called her by looking the name at the reflection of the mirror placed next to him. Raatri replied in a simple expression.

I'm fine.

—You didn't sleep all night yesterday. Have you chatted with your younger sister whole night?

She is not very surprised by the words of Mr. Subhan. This gentleman's observation ability is remarkable. After coming here she talked to her sister on the phone. This fellow has an idea about Subha even though she didn't say the name of her. And the fact is that the drowsiness might have been reflected in her face that she didn't sleep last night.

No.. A tiger in the Sundarbans has given birth. I went to see that baby tiger.

—Well, when did you go to the Sundarbans?

Yesterday night at 12:45 am.

—When did you return?

At three-fifteen in the morning.

—As far as I know there is no direct flight to the Sundarbans, how did you go and how did you come back so quickly?

I can fly like a bird!!

Raatri saw Mr. Subhan's forehead was wrinkled like folded paper. Mr. Subhan's sweating head is still visible in the light of this low power bulb.

—Since when do you think you can glide like a bird?

For the past three months.

Raatri and Subah are twin sisters. Raatri was born at 12:01 am. After a while, Subah comes to earth and at the same moment their mother left the world. Their grandmother raised the two sisters with much love and affection. Most of the time, their father travels abroad for business. It's been two years since their grandmother expired. In such a big house they can sleep in 2 rooms if they want but they sleep in one room and share the same bed.

—A black Pajero parked in front of the alley of my house, did you come in that car?

That I noticed, you saw me from the porch.

—If you can fly then why come in a car?

I can only fly at night.

Subha was the first to discover the fact that Raatri can fly in the air. One night she woke up and found Raatri lying three feet above the bed with her legs folded down. Suddenly it seems that an invisible person is holding her in her arms. Subha noticed that the house was full of fragrant of tuberose flowers. For some unknown reason, this smell is very familiar to her. She heard from her grandmother that her mother preferred tuberose flowers very much. Her mother used to walk around on the roof on full moon nights wrapping tuberose flowers in her hand.

—At night it is dark all around and do you fly with a torch light in your hand?

I usually go out on a full moon night.

In the last few months, all the famous tourist spots of Bangladesh have been visited by Raatri. However, she does not like to travel alone, so now she takes Subah with her. The other day they went to the white hills of Mymensingh. Enjoyed the full moon sitting on the white hill. That was a wonderful sight.

At one point in the conversation, Subhan Saheb asked Raatri a number of questions from her childhood to this age and wrote it down in his own dialect in the notebook. Seeing the way he was asking questions, it seemed to Raatri that Mr. Subahan was treating her like common mental patients.

—You can go today. You can come again exactly two days later. And try to do the things I told you to do.

Well, you often climb on the roof in the middle of the night and look at the sky. Even last night, you were looking at the full moon and crying groping about your lost daughter.

Hearing these words from Raatri, he was stunned but restrained himself and eventually, he became engrossed in deep thought.

The above words were said to unnerve Mr. Subhan. She can fly, but she can't read people's minds. Her younger sister Subah can do this. On their way back from the Sundarbans last night, they came to the roof of Mr. Subhan and saw him. That is when Subah revealed this secret.

Subah rarely goes outside. When she used to went out, she was annoyed to read the ugly picture of the human mind. Being able to read people's minds has become a curse for her now. So she enjoys flying with Raatri at night now.

Mr. Subhan is not able to unravel the mystery of Raatri at all. At first he thought the girl was probably quipping with him. Then he thought the girl might be mentally ill. But after telling the story of yesterday night, he really had a big surprise.

Mr. Subhan is now sitting in the living room of his friend Asif who is a professor of physics at Dhaka University. If Newton's law of gravitation is to be obeyed, then Mr. Subhan himself knows that a person can’t fly. But even then he told Asif the whole story if any outcome was found. He knows that no gravitational force works in humans in space. But has this girl been able to overcome the force of gravity on earth? He did not have to face such a complicated case in his long forty year career.

Raatri did not come to Mr. Subhan that day as scheduled. Mr. Subhan ate dinner and went to sleep. Hearing the sound of the clock at twelve o'clock at night, he woke up. He slowly reached the roof by the stairs.

Today is a full moon. As he looked at the moon, he saw an incredible sight. Three women were gliding around the moon holding hands with full of joy. The two girls looked exactly the same but the third woman was not recognisable, she was looking just like a shadow. The sound of their laughter was so sweet. There was a strong smell of tuberose flowers all around. Where does the strong smell of tuberose flowers come from? Is something supernatural really happening here? An unresolved question!!!

Ops, its really an unresolved question. It made me say " শেষ হইয়াও হইলো না শেষ,রহস্য টা তো রয়েই গেলো"

Btw it was a good one and there was an attraction while reading it. I enjoyed it. Best of luck bhai for the contest.

Always appreciate your solid and inspiring comments. It’s helps and encourage to move forward. Thanks bro.

হ্যা ভাই তা ঠিক একটু মিস্ট্রি রাখা ভালো,মজা লাগে।
ক্লু একটা পেয়েছি মাঝে। যাইহোক সুন্দর ছিল।

Mr. Subhan’s clean bald head was looking like a mirror and she could see the ceiling fan was coming down from the roof and spinning in Mr. Subhan's bald head.

welcome brother. After all we have to move together in this journey.

Yes, brother. That part is the feeling of Raatri after seeing the psychiatrist. Thanks again.

It was very good brother. But the mystery remained.

Yes, there is some mystery. Thanks for your inspiring comments.

Really good one with mystery, hope there would be next part as well.

Hope you are winning this time as well.
Have a nice weekend.
