- An eye opener

Sylhet.jpg

After almost five years I had this amazing experience of visiting Sylhet. One of the well-known tourist destination in Bangladesh. Sylhet is a place which is surrounded by number of haors-wetland eco system, which allures the tourist from all around the world.

When I visited the place, the weather was not quite what I was expecting. It was pouring rain but we were in a hotel inside the city, the roads were fine people’s homes were not drowning; some are also enjoying this atmosphere. At the dawn I visited Hazrat Shahjalal majar, after five years I was completely shocked by the lack of maintenance and the people who were throwing packets and other stuffs irresponsibly.

The next day we planned on to visit the rural areas of Sylhet where the tourist spots are located. Suddenly, the down-pouring started with all its might. As we went ahead we saw a complete different scene from what we saw in the city. Rain water entering through peoples’ houses, people standing on a higher ground and their livestock are drowning. I was quite devastated after witnessing their struggle. That day I had the privilege to return to Dhaka unaffected but I know they will keep on struggling every day and every rainy season.

In my Sylhet tour I might not see the tourist spots but I surely saw two different worlds.

In this season It's really threatening to visit Sylhet. By the way, having a witness to a very different experience is not a bad thing.

Indeed, it was quite a unique experience.
