My Songs of Solitude

Having bad days are inherent — nigh-inevitabilities that comes as a price of living. I'm sure most people have myriad ways to cope with such times — and my condolences to those who don't. I usually pick up a book I'd likely enjoy or a movie in a similar fashion. But sometimes, bad days can be... a bit too gloomy. This is when I submerge myself with a selection of musical tracks I've been marked over the years. The selection changes with time, and I usually put one of them on repeat, and it plays itself the whole day, non-stop. At that very moment, it feels like there is only that song in creation, no other — and I am to listen to it for eternity. It does not feel repetitive then, rather it answers the melancholy and the yearning to get away.

A couple of such songs I'd like to share here. Also I'd like to mention that, I often don't take theses songs by their lyrical meaning, rather the vibe, the feeling they elicit. Their music makes maps in my mind, dungeons I like to wonder in.

To Blossom Blue

Artist - Lake of Tears

This song has a sense of longing. Of course, in the song, the lyric longs for the woman and her absent. To Blossom Blue, is to blossom without you
But when I listen to it, I find myself on an empty shore, without any affiliation to anything — nothing to feel on my own, the song can do that for me. It pours itself into me and I make my own meaning for it. The meaning changes depending on the occasion. The song soothes my nerves, takes away agitations and restlessness. And its repeating chords keep hitting me like raindrops. It is a reset switch for me.

Hello

Artist - Blackfield

Steven Wilson is a favorite artist, but among everything he did, this project calls to me more. Specially this particular song, which invokes many different emotions in me. The song is a curious one too, at times it feels like it is imploring. Other times, it is complaining, reminiscing of the past and even mourning the loss of a loved one. As if the singer is confused about what he's supposed to feel and what has passed. And so, I feel all those contrasting emotions based on my mood and level of distress.
I have no idea what the song is about, thematically, and I don't want to know. It has all the meaning for me already.

I know to other people these songs may not have the same appeal as they do to me and I've listened to them for too many times to critique objectively. But I suspect, they are quite alright as songs, otherwise, I don't think they'd have such a strong hold on me. If you have heard any, do let me know what you think.

it's never necessary to feel blue to enjoy a tune of melancholy

It's not necessary yes. :) But they are multiplied a few times in those moments.

I love to watch movies and listen to songs when I am having my bad days. Just like you, the songs are usually on repeat because that's the only way I can feel better

Sort of like being in trance, eh? Savoring the woe to the fullest!

Exactly, that's it

Love blakefield the best , and the sound is sweet to my music preference.
